Krailer
The GTA models (in this case, SA) have something called "chassis_vlo"... This may sound like a dumb question but...what's its purpose?
[NX] Joao.pt
Its the lod model of the vehicles
92F
i.e. its what you see of the vehicle when its at a distance. Just a basic shape/outline of the car.
Krailer
Thanks for the quick replies. Just another question, if I'm editing a vehicle (changing its form or whatever) should I change the lod model accordingly? Or it doesn't make a difference? EDIT: At the distance? That makes sense now, I was having issues when driving in cinematic view, some parts of the vehice (the parts added) would disappear when seen from a long distance. Will it also affect the shadow of the vehicle? 'Cause I'm having lose parts in the shadow. Edited May 14, 2006 by Krailer
Suction Testicle Man
Parts randomly disappearing is a bug with the game, unfortunately. If you can see the chassis_hi but none of the additional parts, it's not the chassis_vlo being displayed. If you distance yourself further from the model, the vlo should appear. It is worth updating the chassis_vlo if you have added a giant banana to a car's roof for example (just for maintaining a realistic effect ), but if you're just changing headlight colours or something I wouldn't bother. If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.
Krailer
Ok, I think I sorted out the low detail model. But what's really buggering me is the shadow. I updated it in order to match the current vehicle's shape and I keep getting lose parts. I'm not sure if its visible in the screeshots, but here it is: Those 2 lose pieces won't go away for anything. I tried editing the shadow several times and no good. Any thoughts? 92F
I'm not too sure if it has anything to do with the vehicles col file.
ronlivings08
Are they actual parts in the dff?If they are parts that are appearing way off like that then the axis settings need to be adjusted. Not sure if that helps...Will keep an eye on this topic to help were I can
Krailer
I don't have any moving parts in the DFF, it's all attached together except the bonnet and the wheels. I tried using other vehicles collision and no change. Then I tried using other vehicles shadow and those lose oparts were gone, so there must be something wrong with the shadow I edited, I just can't figure out what it is
ronlivings08
Hmm...Im not sure then.I havent done anything other than change the actual model myself so thats about as far as my help could go is wiht the model, not shadow & collision.Even if I had the files I couldnt say I would find it if it isnt a model problem

Make sure to weld all vertices together and that there are no gaps in any of the meshes, thats what causes this. The shadow should be one complete solid obeject, you can however make shadows from multiple objects but they MUST be solid. Flat one sided objects cannot be used. Treat it as a balloon and it must hold air with no leaks.
Krailer
I butchered a variety of vehicles to put the truck together, and then used the corresponding parts of each vehicle to set up the lod, shadow and collision of the final product. One of the lose parts indeed reminds of a one-sided piece I used, so that must be the problem. Thanks for clearing that up.
