GTA3Freak-2001
I am not sure I like the whole thing of episodic releases of games, it just seems that Valve were behind in the expansion and so decided to release what they have and call it Episode 1. I'll still probably get the game or download it through Steam but I just hope other companies don't decide to abandon full releases and just release the game in parts. Sin Episodes: Emergence then? haha I like the idea of episodes but they have to be BIG parts otherwise it just feels so expensive. I'm definately looking forward to Episode 1. Still alive, lurking in the shadows. BF3 Profile
Sillyhed2000
Expensive? For $20US?
pizza guy
How does $20 equate to £37.99? Somebody can't add up, or convert from dollars to pounds, especially as the pound is worth more than the dollar. Therefore it should be something like £
GTA3Freak-2001
I just feels it gives too much power to the developers and gives them an excuse to be lazy and just spurt out content whenever they get around to it.
Black-hawk
Price: USD 19.95 / BP 35.99 / EUR 37.99 What the f*ck. 1$ = 1.8 British Pounds 1$ = 1.2 Euro Price for brits in $ = 35.99 x 1.8 = 64.78$ Price for EU inhabitants in $ = 37.99 x 1.2 = 45.58$ Current exchange rates Edited May 14, 2006 by Black-hawk
CCPD
The pricing of the games does not work like that. Just because in US the game will cost USD 20 it does not mean that in UK it will be BP 9.99. The buying power of Dollar and Pound are different. Anyway, I now updated the price as I got more reliable sources and it is much lower than it was expected. Price comparison at kelkoo. I think that the only reason Valve decided to release episodes is to get more money from sales. The episodes could go up to 5 or even 10! Just use you're credit card and you'll get it for the American price. In aussie money its only like 26 bucks, really cheap, considering in shops its like $50. Dalpura
I'm a bit weary of this to be honest. As in I'm not sure it's worth the money, it's $19.95, and Half-Life 2 is $29.95; so one would think it's going to be a decent game size. I'll be waiting for some reviews and comments before I fork out any money for it. And I'm with Freak on the episodic releases, doesn't look too good to me so far. just another thug
I have a bad feeling that this will be nothing more than another Lost Coast. Let's just hope it feels like a true expansion.

Phalanxe
I have a bad feeling that this will be nothing more than another Lost Coast. Let's just hope it feels like a true expansion. Except for the fact that Lost Coast was both free and a tech demo to show off the HDR that is going to be implemented into these expansion packs. If anything, these episodes will probably be more of a Blue Shift/Opposing Force type of thing.
D Jones
Yeah Lost Coast, that took me what? all of 5 mins max to complete Yeah, it wasn't that hard. I just loved the enviroment of it. Although, I am still going to get it. I love the HL series and I've gotten every expansion pack and I've fallen in love with all of them. And I seriously doubt it will be "another lost coast". Valve has been working on this bitch way to long for it to be that short, and not to mention all the damn release date changes, it's crazy. Hopefully it'll be better than expected. FiShMaStEr
Lost coast was more a map to show off the new HDR technology that the engine can support, the level itself was built around this, it just took valve the usual couple of years to build. Hopefully this will be of a decent size, or screw getting the other episodes. Personally I would have rather waited a year or two to get a proper expansion pack of decent size instead of this episodic content.

Waddy
I cant wait for this game! Id much rather wait 12months ish for an expansion than 4/5 years for a new game. Atleast this way it wont get boring. And its cheap. How many games do people buy and play once for more than that, If you enjoyed HL2, then you deffo will enjoy this.

DJDeez
Hmm, although they said it was going to be for free for steam users at first, I'm still going to get this.
RoAcHcliP
I loved HL2, so ive preloaded it. They said in one of their steam updates that they are very proud of it and cant wait to get it out to gamers, and that they feel its some of their best work up to date. I hope thats not just fartage, valve seem pretty geniuinly interested in seeing what customers like, they are always doing serveys and reading feedback. darthYENIK
The only game I say is worth $20 on steam, is Day of Defeat. And even then it seems slightly expensive.
D Jones
I'm going to go get it when I get the money, but I'm kinda interested where it will start after the ending of HL2. I assume the G-Man will in this more than others, and after seeing a few clips and sound clips, it seems the G-Man isn't a very happy man in this expansion. Waste
I'm going to go get it when I get the money, but I'm kinda interested where it will start after the ending of HL2. I assume the G-Man will in this more than others, and after seeing a few clips and sound clips, it seems the G-Man isn't a very happy man in this expansion. So sayeth the PC Gamer magazine I have, GMan loses control of Gordon and Gordon strikes out on his own and works for himself now. The PC Gamer mag said there a lot of new stuff in this expansion and it's reportedly 4 - 6 hours of playtime. Also, the article went on to say that the AI has been improved, Alex helps you when you are stuck, and there is a new Combine soldier zombie. I am going to buy this no matter what the nay-sayers say. I love the Half Life series.
D Jones
Well, I guess that blows the whole "GMan is god" theory out of the water. Sounds interesting. The new combine soldiers I've read about are called Stalkers, which can been seen on the last level.
Waste
Well, I guess that blows the whole "GMan is god" theory out of the water. Sounds interesting. The new combine soldiers I've read about are called Stalkers, which can been seen on the last level. Negative: The product of extreme, brutal Combine engineering, stalkers are humans who have had their higher brain functions severed and their bodies physically altered. The zombie they mentioned isn't in Half Life 2 anywhere. From what I can figure, it will be Combine soldiers that have been gotten by the good old headcrabs. Though, I do think that the Stalkers do appear in Episode 1. (This mod right here has them in it: SMOD) Here's the paragraph that mentions it: One question that's already answered: Alyx survived. In fact, Walker tells us, each coming episode will have a "focus", and Episode 1's focal point is Alyx. "She'll help you as much as she can" in this chapter, acting as your constant companion and and partner, giving gameplay hints when you take too long to solve a puzzle and adding much needed firepower when you're under attack by City 17's monsters, such as the all-new Zombie - a grenade wielding, zombified Combine soldier. Also, I forgot to say in my above post that this will ship with Half Life: Source and Half life 2: Deathmatch.
Dr Doidberg
hl2 sucked, the only thing it had going for it was graphics, and the mods, same with hl1. $20 for a 5 hour "episode". Waste of money. Valve is stupid. You can't take a SERIES and turn it into "episodes". Valve is one of the most unreliable developers in the industry. They say a game will come out 06/06. Then its delayed to 10/06. Then its delayed again to 2/07. Then they don't actually release it until the last day of the month...Reason for delays. Who knows, they don't tell us. For all we know they could be taking vacations. At least when rockstar delays a game its for good reason, like to make the game better, or turn down the min requirements so more ppl can play. Name 1 valve game that was not delayed. You can't!
