Iran - Nuclear Weapons? Or just peaceful means?

Recommended Posts

Pavlov

Well, i might sound strange but if you look closely at the director lines or the shape of Iranian (not Ahmenedjadi) words, i must say that Iranian people are visionnaires.

And i am 100% for a creation of civil nuclear energy, or even for military purposes.

If you have listened to the mollahs (before Ahmenadjad was elected) or the iranian minister of foreign affairs, their vision is really interesting. The nuclear weapon allows them to be totally independent and have a virtual immunity. It's the easiest (because military, and based on "total anhilation") and also the most radical way to position themselves against American supremacy. Isn't a good thing to let them decide on their own what is best for them? It's a geopolitical data, if put into good hands, that could totally change the shape of Midde-East.

Iran is one of the only states able to run correctly a democracy for 20 years in the area. Look at Iraq, where they had Saddam and now the system is not working, look at Palestine where the elections didn't work out, look at Syria or Lebanon...

Now the problem is Ahmenadjad. I don't support the help that Iran sends to the Hamas, and i would like Ahmenadjad to be fired because "die USA" and "die Israel", even if it is so traditionnal and classic, doesn't sound really appealing for someone who wants to have nuclear energy. So far Ahmenadjad has proven he is really dangerous, and well the nuclear weapon is the most efficient when not used. If he continues like he does now, trying to make us believe that he IS dangerous, he will make a fool of himself... this is where i think the problem is.

That's an interesting post Pavlov. Ahmenadjad is trying to make himself look like a bigger threat than he is. He'd be as good as dead to initiate force, which is why he is trying to make the world think he more dangerous than he is, possibly to create a situation where he can "fight back". If we do ignore him, this situation will pan itself out making him look like a fool and he'll probably lose his power through democratic elections.

Actually the problem of democratic elections is, that iranian people do like him. The reason is simple, he had an innovative program, and he could show that he cared about Iran's developpement and global growth. People were fed up with

corrupted mollahs.

Altough, there is a paradox, how someone who cares about his country and his inhabitants could expose it to total anhilation from Israel or USA. And as you said, it shows that there is probably a line Ahmenadjad shouldn't cross to be still like by people.

If there was no Ahmenadjad, nor his belliquous (sp?) words, the whole thing could remind me of Tito and Yougoslavia or that Emir in Syriana movie.

That goes back to a core problem with democracy itself though. If they vote him out because he doesn't live up to his radical promises then they'll just vote in a more radical president. Plus we never know the true legitimacy of these elections.

And yes I know the Iranian people like him now. But what I'm suggesting is that maybe they won't like him after time when his threats prove to be unsubstantial(of course we achieve this by ignoring him completely).

It's not a matter of radical promises or more radical president, it's mostly a matter of change and interesting program. Iranian people wanted an outstanding policy giving Iran a more important place on the international playground, which will lead to reforms and growth. Plus, there were some ideology concerns too.

Ahmenadjad was able to fit this demand, and the nuke case proves he is keeping his word. And actually i think that those elections are legitimate. It always worked pretty good in Iran.

But are the US and EU willing to take the chance that Ahmenadjad is just trying to increase Iran's sigificance and risk ignoring the small possibility that he has the balls (or lack of sanity) to attack the US or Israel?

The solitary thing we can do to increase those chances is to interfere.

Cypress, I see you are an American and am surprised to see your lack of faith.

The United States people see the threat of a nuclear armed Iran. Iran has a much more solid case than Iraq.

The fact is that the implementation of nuclear power in Iran, (and the costs associated with it) would only make them lose money. There is absolutely no reason for Iran to be enriching uranium, especially in heavily guarded underground facilities.

Whats really shocking about this whole situation is that the U.S. government has seriously considered the use of nuclear weaponry.

I agree with the bit about Ahmedinajad, it's hard to trust someone who wants peaceful nuclear power when he's clearly stated his intentions with what to do militarily.

On the other hand the suggestions of (some of) America('s high government officials) with what they may intend to do with Iran may also create as big fools as Ahmedinajad.

Although I do doubt Iran has a correctly democracy, in the last election only the hardliners were allowed to run, the rest being 'disqualified' by the Guardian Council. But that's beside the point.
