You on the other hand, the only reason you want to get it is because you want to think you're "elite". Well, you're not. So go back to downloading porn. Just because you won the award "Most Helpful Member" doesn't mean you need to try and win "Biggest Asshole" too. Has nothing to do with me any a**hole. Just enlighting the boy to a harsh reality. If being up front and honest is being an asshole, that ok yeah I'm a giant a**hole, but the truth is the truth. Actually, I think you're an asshole because of the following statement. Very simple.. how do you know that's his reason for getting it? Oh, right, you don't. What exactly is his reason for having it then,? Judging by all of his posts, he isnt too computer smart, it's not like he is downloading it so he can beta test it, because if he was he would have a copy from microsoft, and hes not developing some important software for the platform either. Every single person that I know, with vista has it to show off, there is like two people that just used it to see it and then uninstall it. Everyone else is all "we got vista, you don't ..... and this is from hardcore computer freaks that only see the light of day when forced to attend a class. I'd rather wait for a more stable version with the appropriate, functional drivers. @slipknot disasterpieces- what are you planning to do with this OS? I meant is as he can say he cool. That he could say, "Hey look I have Windows Vista" to all of his friends and have them be, for lack of a better word, jealous. Ever seen the show MadTV? There's a skid they do at times with a character named Stuard who often says "Look what I can do" then it jumps around and does something he thnks is neat/cool/whatever. That's what I meant by elite in this case...and cases like this. He only wants it so he can show up what he can get his hands on that he knows no one should be using. "Hey look what I'm running, and you're not. So " I saw the same thing in another forum I use to hang out in with people getting their hands on a leaked version of XP beta and I said the same thing to them. "Who cares? I'm laugh my a** off when the system crashes and you lose your files." As mean as that sounds, the sad thing is it happened. They lost their files because the beta was seriously flawed and I had to laugh not because they lost their files (believe it or not and despite what I said, I felt bad that they lost some files that they didn't back up) but because I was right and back then I didn't know half of what I know now. I did also laugh because they didn't back up their files and these are the same people that lost files will running a more or less stable OS Win95/98 and they didn't learn to back up their files back then and I told them serveral times to back their stuff up and often. Think about it. No one that's not qualified should be messing with a beta version of an OS. Are you seriously trying to tell me he is qualified? It's obvious he's not. If he was MS would send him a copy just like they do to all of the other beta testers. So now why else would be needing with Vista beta? Nostalgia? The old "because I can" readon? So why exactly would be a legitimate reason for someone with no qualifications to need a copy of a beta OS like Vista? Simple answer: None. So I'm not assuming a damn thing. I mean, I wanna "feel" it. Didn't know you could do that to your computer, you know, like you have windows 95 and can upgrade it to XP, to the look. I thought you had to buy a new computer for that kind of stuff, to get the new version of windows and such. Anyway, I just got Azureus and feel compelled to reply. I'm downloading a game (that's right, I said it [seriously, do people actually use it for anything legal these days, let's not kid ourselves here]) and I saw that sometimes it would go to 10 kb/s and sometimes up to 30kb/s for an hour or so. Anyway, I suggest leaving your computer on overnight and turning off your screen, sleep on it. Let it continue downloading, I leave the upload speed lower than my download speed (around 25 kb/s upload speed). I started this download Sunday, and it's Wednesday, it's almost done (94.8% here, ETA:2 hours and 6 1 minutes). Don't surf the intrawebs too much and just let it be. Like most topics in this forum, nobody tells us what we need to know and then we have to assume sh*t. Wolf went to the trouble to create the 'read before you post' topic that has been pinned at the f*cking top of the page but still half the people that come on here won't take the time to read it. Maybe if everybody followed the same system here things would run smoothly. Someone posts something, then we have to ask 'what OS' and 'is you graphics card slot AGP or PCI-e' etc etc, and then the original topic starter gets pissed with us for asing the questions. it's possible he just wanted to try it, because he was curious what it was like, how it ran, etc. There's nothing involving feeling "elite" in just wanting to try an OS you might be using by the end of this year. IF he was curious about it, he should have read up on it first, and then atleast asked if it would run on his computer (he could have atleast lied and asked if it would run when it comes out... not trying to illegaly download it). But wolf is right, if he did get it, and did get Vista going without it crashing in about 15 minutes and rooting his computer, he would have been boasting about it to his friends. Just think about what your doing sometimes, and ask some questions before you make a big move like downloading and preparing to install a new very incomplete operating system.
