ArKaHN
so, i've been getting an error in a couple of my games that had to do with rundll.exe. i looked info up online, and it said its a program used in windows 95, 98 and ME. also i learned that if you are using the OS 2000 or XP and you have rundll.exe, its a trojan. is this true? does anyone know about this? i am using XP, and if its a trojan i want to get rid of it, but im not sure if it's safe for me to do so, because many websites say its dangerous to delete it from your system. who knows about this? thanks

Umm buddy.... Rundll.exe or rundll32.exe IS NOT A TROJAN. it is a application that can run a .dll as a .exe I hope this helped.
ArKaHN
well, i know what it is, and what it does. but i have come across several websites that said trojans with that name can attach themselves to rundll(32).exe and can cause alot of damage. i was just trying to get some feedback from anyone who knew anything about it thanks for the reassurance, though. heres what happened: i was trying to play Risk Your Life 2 and after clicking on the server this is what i got so.. considering how the title says "rundll32.exe - Application Error" "the instruction at "0x003c1708" referenced memory at "0x003c1708". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program" has anyone else encountered this? Edited April 18, 2006 by ArKaHN
K^2
First, kill off every process that your PC will run without. You can leave the System and Service processes, just kill the user spawned processes. Then go to Start->Run, type in msconfig, go to the Startup tab. This will give you a list of programs that will start when your computer does. Uncheck anything you don't recognize. If you notice something missing later that you need on startup, you can check it again on the list. If you have a trojan, it will be somewhere on the list almost with certainty. There are a few tricky ones that integrate themselves in other useful programs, but these are very rare now. So if you keep your startup list clean, your system should be running clean. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
