Stream iTunes music to your PSP

If you don't have a fairly large Memory Stick and want to listen to your music from your computer around the house then you'll find this very useful. You can stream your iTunes library to your PSP. There shouldn't be as much buffering needed because you are streaming locally and not from the Internet. You don't have to purchase songs from iTunes - just add your current music to an iTunes playlist. Anyone can do this so long as they have firmware 2.60 (for RSS) on their PSP and the latest version of iTunes.

  1. Download this file but don't open it yet.
  2. You need to have port 8080 open on your firewall. Not sure how to do this? Well, if you have Windows Firewall enabled it will notify you about this. You do not need port 8080 open on your router since music will not be streamed across the Internet (just from your computer to router to PSP).
  3. Open up iTunes (download here) and make sure you have some music in your playlists. Next, open the file you downloaded in step 1.
  4. Everything should be good now and you probably got notifed by your firewall. Make sure you don't block if Windows Firewall alerts you. Type in your browser's address bar the following address: http://localhost:8080. If the iTunes RSS Server appears you are ready to stream music to your PSP.
  5. From now on these steps apply to using the PSP. Goto Internet Browser and connect to your router. Put in your computer's IP address (running iTunes). To find out your IP address go to Start > Run and type in cmd. Next type in ipconfig. Your IP address on the screen should be inputted into the address bar on the PSP followed by a colon and then the port 8080 (e.g. http://192.168.1.2:8080).
  6. The page should load up fairly quickly since you are loading from your computer and not from the Internet. Move the cursor over the orange RSS square and you can add it to your RSS channels. Then play from the RSS Channel section on the PSP.
Please note you need your computer running iTunes and the downloaded file at all times whilst streaming music. Information gathered from Skatter Tech.

I just thought it might be useful as a stand-alone topic in case some people have trouble with it.

It's good you're thinking about other people, but anyone who talks about PSP would be in that topic.
