-slash
You should really look into getting Battlefield 1942. It's not free to download but it's only $18AU, which I think equates to roughly 8 pounds. Well worth the purchase and a lot of people still play. Mr.Stevo
Yes, even though its not free, BF1942 is pretty cheap these days. Though one thing for sure is that the weapons sound like plastic guns IMO. I can't help you with finding a free WW2 FPS, but if you find one, chances are that it's going to suck.
Dalpura
Battlefield 1942, Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source are all dirt cheap; and great fun. If you want to stick to free games, stick to Enemy Territory, otherwise just fork out the few bucks and get those. Well worth it if you enjoy a good WWII shooter. Return to Castle Wolfenstein (which ET is based off of) is another great WWII game. I bought that two years ago for $30AU, so I imagine it's only gotten cheaper since then. Great single player, and great multiplayer.
imheretostay
I recommend BF42, alot of people still play it and it's great fun. If only I could get a mod that fixes the damn weapon sounds.

Merciless Creations? Care to expand on that? Sorry I that didn't explain, but MC is a modification for BF42 that replaces all your in-game sounds. It also has custom maps, new vehicles, and so on, but for that part you have to swtich the game to the modification. So what Im saying is that if you install the mod, you wont have to switch because it doesn't interfere with the servers online, but thats only for the sounds. http://www.mercilesscreations.net/default.asp The reason I say this is because I thought you meant that you wanted to get a some sort of sound mod for '42 but, now I noticed you want to fix your '42 sounds, so I guess I made a little mistake on reading your message. Forgotten Hope is also quite good. Everything is rehashed pretty much, weapon sounds, maps, physics. A lot more realism based. For eg, instead of in '42 when you had to aim well above a distant target to hit them with a tank shell, in something like a Panther D in FH, it's point and shoot. You can hit tanks as far as you can see with relative ease. Forgotten Hope
Mr.Stevo
Yes, FH is extremely good. Too bad my for my crappy computer. I WILL get FH once I get a new computer(Most likely for BF2). Now...lets get back on topic.
