Mike_Toreno
What does having a problem with your PS2 disc drive have to do with San Andreas related discussion? I think you should have posted this in Gaming Chat or something...

Mike_Toreno
What do you want the people here to do about it?
Nick000
The only thing I could think of is if you want it cheap, buy a used fat PS2, they are cheaper than the smaller ones. If not, you would have to get it fixed, sorry.
matt27689
So if it was metal gear, you would of went to Metal Gear Forums? Just search on google, I'm sure some other people have had same problem. When it happened to my friend, the disc slidy thing actually came off one of the little things it slides on, so you just lift it up gently and move it right or left, but as your one is stuck in instead of out. I can't help so I don't know why I posted. @Mike, lol I thought you was pdescobar, where has he been lately?
balmung03
he said don't flame, and some of these posts kinda border just that... @mattmoore42: i would suggest that you search google like matt27689 said, searching for your particular problem. hopefully, someone else has had this problem too (not likely that it hasn't happened), and may know how to fix it. if not, then i suppose you'll have to get it fixed by Sony, but that would be a last resort, second only to trying to fix it yourself with no knowledge of how to do that. I for one feel sorry for you having to experience this, but I've never tried taking a PS2 apart so I can't help much in that respect.
mafiaking
just open it up i had to do that with my xbox but the problem is you won't be able to get it fixed again as it f*cks up the void on it. or use a screwdriver and yank it open (only joking)
Mainland Marauder
@Mike, lol I thought you was pdescobar, where has he been lately? pd's on vacation for the holiday weekend. Anywho, on-topic for this off-topic topic, I've requested a move to a more relevant place. "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be." Muffins
Take er apart, that's free, even though It voids you're warranty. Just google a guide or wing it and take it apart like I did (I still works).
fox09
The best way to do it, is take apart your PS2, and jam a spork as hard as you can, into the laser eye. That should fix your problem...whatever it was. Really, just take it apart, and fiddle with the disc tray. It probably just came off the track thing it's on. Kinda sad that it'd take 60-75$ to fix THAT.
CtrlAltSupr
Disc tray? Big PS2? try taking off the cover (screws on the bottom). Now, the disc unit is shut too, as a sepparate thing. You want to take it's cover off too, so some more screws. Now there lays ur San An disc. Take it (duh). Now procceding to check on as why the b*tch isn't oppening. Check a white spikey piece that regulates lens position related to open/closed position of the tray. Check it is well put (lens shold be at normal position regarding disc when closed). By normal I mean sort of parallel, and obvioubsly not touhing it, neither like falling w/o support.
Barguast
I had the same problem a few months ago but I was having a mod chip fitted at the time. Luckily the guy who was fitting it for me fixed it for free. I think it is a fairly common issue, and it usually occurs when a cable leading from the disk tray becomes disconnected. It's usually simple enough thing to fix, but it may still cost a fair bit to have someone else repair it. Since your PS2's warranty has expired, that shouldn't be an issue though. EDIT: Continue this topic here please. Edited April 16, 2006 by Barguast
