Big Slow
Ok, I'm pretty sure it's just a standard question, and you'd know. I'm using Nero 7 to make a dvd disc of a television show. I have the entire first season ready to burn, but when I add the files to the listing, it says the disc is full, and that I'm using 10.6 gigs for the disc. The shows are only about 2 gigs and the DVD-R should hold 4.7. It says 120 minutes, which would corroborate with the amount of time I can really fit on a disc (4 episodes at 1/2 hour each). Now, there is a couple of people on Ebay selling this series as well, and it's all burned discs because the series isn't out for sale. I emailed them and they are using standard 4 gig and 120 minute DVD-R's like mine, but fitting entire seasons on them with menus. I guess I'm just wondering if there is a way to compress files to make them fit and still work on Nero 7 as a dvd with the menus and such, or if you knew a solution to my problem? Thanks. Wolf68k
But I'll bet they aren't using Nero. More than likely Adobe EncoreDVD or something from Ulead. I used EncoreDVD and got 4 x 1/2half shows (maybe less because there are no ads) plus a small simple main menu and had no problem. I don't know how Nero does it, but EncoreDVD will re-encode the video if the size is over the limit to make it small enough to fit.
Sixdust
Are the videos in proper format to be burned? Usually when I want to give someone a movie on a dvd disc, I first convert the file to dvd format, and then burn it. It then even works in my dvdplayer, perfect for when I want to watch bigscreen.Ofcourse I am using crappy no name brand discs which are the wrost I have used, I have more coasters than a dinner does for hot tea and coffee. Are you using quality discs? And Nero = . It used to be a good program, but nowadays I use clonedvd2 and other burning programs combined with winavi converter and anydvd. Wolf68k
I think be means Nero of today, not yester-year. Me, I still use Nero 5.5.10.xx. I refuse to move up to Nero 6 let alone 7.

K^2
If you don't need these to be playable on DVD players, just save the video files as data on the DVD. That way, they'll only take up the 2GB that they take up on your HDD. Otherwise, you need to make sure that the video encoder is set to low quality. Nero might have settings for that somewhere. That's how you get 120 minutes in. On the quality settings that most video DVD programs use by default you can fit less than an hour of video, which is consistent with Nero telling you that it needs 10.6 GB for your videos. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
PresidentKiller
If you have Nero 6 or 7, you can use Nero Recode to re-encode your videos to fit on any media (CD, DVD, PSP, iPod, etc.).

Wow, could I ask why? Why I still use Nero 5.5? Because it has everything I need. If I want to make a DVD video, I have EncoreDVD and Ulead VideoStudio. If I want to make a S/VCD then I have VCDWizard. If I want to make an audio CD, well then I'll use Nero because I'm not going to being anything fancy like trying to mix/blend the songs. I'm not into making picture CDs that to a slide show of the images and add music. What people don't know is that the ones that are playable in a DVD player are just VCD movies. You make it playable in a DVD player using a DVD disc, guess what, it's just a DVD movie. Most people think the pics are on there as data as is the music and something magical is done to the disc to make it playable in a DVD player. The only other picture CDs are either just the pics on the disc as data and your player has to support that kind of data on the disc, but notice you can't have music playing at the same time. There might be a very few select players that might allow you to play a mp3 on the disc while display the data images, but those players don't come cheap. Other than that there are picture CDs that are images burned at data but a program set to autorun when put into a PC (rarely also Macs but easily possible for both). Remember the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. If Nero had security issues like a web browser then that might be a different story, but that's not the case so updating is a matter of choice. CtrlAltSupr
Remember the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. True... Also yeah, if you have better stuff to do everything else then 5.5 works wonders for what you are using it.
