Video Problems

The problem I am having is that a few minutes into the game, the graphics start displaying all kinds of weird shapes and distortions. One interesting thing is that if I go into 'Display Options' in the game and change any of the display settings the game will revert back to normal. However a few minutes later, the same thing happens again.

 

Game speed is not an issue, however the odd shapes make the game unplayable. I have tried numerous versions of drivers and have tried downgrading to Directx 9.0b per some other port suggestions.

 

System Specs:

Windows XP SP2

Athlon 1200

Nvidia FX5200 128MB

 

Any suggestions? I can provide more screenshots if necessary.

Is this the only game that gives you this strange distortion thing? If other games do it then there may be something wrong with your video card but if not I am not sure what you suggest as you've covered all the things that I would usually suggest.

try downgrade video driver to an old one (like 45.23 )

Did you try to contact Rockstar Games on e-mail?

 

Can you walk on that shapes? Do they behave like normal part of texture or you can walk throuhg them?

 

...the wierdest thing I ever saw....

I have sent Rockstar an email, but have not heard back yet.

 

I am able to walk through the shapes. I have used the program 3dAnalyze with the setting 'emulate HW TnL Caps' emabled, meaning emulate hardware Transform and Lighting Caps. This stop the shapes from appearing, but slows the game way down because it relies on the CPU for TnL. The card I am using has TnL capabilities, odd.

i AM hving this problem with vicecity you have to update the video drivers or the patch(dont know i the patch really works nevr tried it) but updating the video drivers SHOULD work you know...

I have tried installing the newest nvidia drivers. When I do this, I see the initial Rockstar logo when the game starts, but then the screen is black. When moving the mouse around I can hear the menu options being selected, but simply can't see anything. Any other suggestions?

 

BTW, Rockstars answer was to install the latest drivers.
