grove4eva
Was playin and said that CJ was hungry and started dying and i was doing somethin important. How do i know when he's hungry without having the pop up telling me that he is. Or is that the only way to know and you just have to keep eating. gillies
You usually do get a dialog in the upper left corner of the screen telling you that you need to get some food. I think you start to starve one and a half days, or 36 minutes, after you last saved or ate something unless your health is already low in which case I think it starts happening a bit faster. You should eat a lot of meals before doing anything you can't stop for a long time so you will lose your fat instead of your health for a while. From my own experience, I believe hunger begins at 2 full game days of non-eating (48 real minutes). I didn't specifically test low-health situations though. Seems odd that that would affect it, but I dunno. Anyhow, you are supposed to lose all your fat first (every in-game hour once you start starving a bit more comes off), then muscle, then health. Although when I had the gym glitch I was losing health before muscle. As long as you have a bit of fat reserve to burn off, there's really no problem with a bit of starvation as you can get fat built back up very quickly. gillies
I think I read 36 minutes somewhere around here but you're probably right about it.. I'm not too sure about the low health thing either, but I seem to remember getting a message way sooner than I expected when I started to starve without having full health then ate but that didn't fill it either. I might have not been paying enough attention to how long it had been though. You're probably also right about this as well but I read here that muscle loss is on a timer and unless you have quite a lot of fat you should start losing health before muscle at least for a while. Mainland Marauder
If you care about working out at the gym, it's best to have CJ eat something every game day (even if it's just from vending machines or hot dog stands). I myself have never noticed health loss before muscle loss, but I play on a different version and platform than gillies or pd. I have the gym glitch on my 100% playthrough, but it matters little because my muscle got maxed out through in-game physical activity and I never worked out in the gyms; I only went to them to fight the gym masters which is needed for 100%. Mz. Hazey
My CJ supposedly "loses muscle" once in a blue moon (He has max muscle and no fat) but it never really takes it off. It says that it decreases (the box shows up with the red), but nothing ever seems to decrease from what I've noticed. Also I've never lost health from not eating, I eat usually once every 2 days if not more (I don't think I've done less, maybe once or twice). I usually only have him eat salads too so he doesn't gain anything.
syrdax
well, in my experience... I usually eat 10 salads, so I don't worry about eating for a long time, so I usually save after 2 or 3 missions or hard missions, and I am sure that I spent more than 4 or 5 in-game days before feeling hungry. The other day I was doing ambulance missions and I had no fat, so in level 9 I started to feel hungry (the little box in the upper left corner) and started to lose energy right at the first stomach noise, then muscle with energy; when I finished the missions I almost died, no muscle, and just a bit of energy. So I can asure you that, at least in PC version 1.01, you do lose energy after losing all the fat.

GnR-NoD
i only lost healt 3 times, i almost never eat, unless i need health, not from starvin just for getting hit by something, 2 of the 3 times where doing ambulance missions, and the mission where you burn the pot with The True
Runestoner
The best thing to do is if you had not eaten lately, and you are about to do an important mission, or something is to eat before the mission. You can tell if C.J. is humgry because you can hear his stomach growling and you will eventually lose health, fat and muscle. I had CJ at full muscle once, and I walked out of the room, and forgot to pause the game, and when I returned to the room, CJ was standing in front of the hospital with no fat and no muscle. I was so pissed at myself.
