balmung03 Posted April 11, 2006 Share Posted April 11, 2006 (edited) Well, after playing the game for so long, I have gotten to the point where joyriding is one of my favorite pastimes. Whether it be on motorcycles, cars, planes, or boats, taking an evening spin can be one of the most fun things for someone who has done every mission in the game multiple times but still loves to play GTA. Therefore, I thought I'd make a forum devoted to people like me, those who love to get behind the wheel and see what they can do. Think of this as a showcase for your driving ability. If you think you have skills that everyone should see, or just happened to record some nice driving, post it up here. Anything from clips of a few seconds, to entire movies (just not as long as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, please) is acceptable. And if you're an aspiring movie maker, feel free to put in captions, subtitles, cutscenes, credits, whatever you feel like. This is just a brainchild idea, and I didn't intend it to be a contest, but if it eventually evolves into one, that would be pretty sweet. My only hope is that this topic will continue for a while, since it is the first one I have ever tried to start. For all of those who don't know, movies can be made on PC using certain programs, such as FRAPS and GameCam (http://www.fraps.com and http://www.gamecam.com respectively, although personally I recommend FRAPS). With these programs, the videos are uncompressed, and require certain programs to compress them, such as VirtualDub or Windows Movie Maker (I recommend this one). For those who make videos often, video capture cards can be purchased and used to make videos off your computer as well, although they can cost a little, somewhere around $50.00 USD or so. And finally, those with digital cameras that have video capabilities can make movies that way, although it's not the best quality. Still, it's one of the few ways people with Xbox or PS2 can share their movies. There are also capture cards for PCs that can be hooked up to your TV in order to take movies of your Xbox or PS2 gameplay, but I am unsure of how to do this, so you may want to ask around if you're going to attempt it that way. So, without any further ado, let me put up two of my own movies, to give you a small idea of what I'm trying to do and hopefully inspire others to do the same. First is a small clip of me flying an AT-400 upside-down under a few bridges, and then using a tunnel in SF to stop myself (and yes, the plane did not blow up): http://rapidshare.de/files/17765762/AT-400..._Stunt.wmv.html Second is a 3.5 minute or so clip of me offroading down Mount Chiliad in a Subaru Impreza WRX STi (a mod of the Sultan car); took me around 5 tries to get it right: http://rapidshare.de/files/17767341/STi_Rally.wmv.html I hope everyone likes my idea, and I welcome any comments, and especially any new videos. balmung03 Posted April 11, 2006 Author Share Posted April 11, 2006 thanks for noticing sickness, i have changed the one that needed to be changed. @MM: yeah, i tried posting before in SATheatre, but was told that they wanted stuff that was longer. this is more for people who can't really make long stuff (like if they have the free versions of FRAPS or other programs), or like to drive around a lot and just record their driving, like me. i'm not sure how far off the ground it'll get either, but i'm hoping for the best. sorry to hear you can't host vids, but just having your attention given to this thread makes me feel good. If I could, I'd have posted a clip of what I was doing earlier - speeding through San Fierro from Michelle's to Katie's (yep, I'm a two-timer) in a nitrous-equipped Cabbie, weaving around cars and roadside peds and objects without hitting anything. Some City Slicking vids could also be posted, and might actually have some use for people looking for different ways to beat/get gold in that. Oh, and the servers are here because Tank wants us to post stuff. Good stuff, anyway. That's what he pays for Nothing hurt by posting links to vids hosted outside the Forums. Sorry, I'm a PS2 player, and the only way to get the game on PC would be to do warez but, that 's illegal, and I have no way of recording it, so sorry. It's been a while since I made my last video, editing is just too much time consuming. I also haven't captured any footage lately due to HD space restrictions (I have less than 300mb left ), but I guess I can sort out some small clips if I know what this is all about. balmung03 Posted April 11, 2006 Author Share Posted April 11, 2006 what i'm looking for really is just videos of people driving any vehicle they want, and showing off what they can do in it. zoom through traffic under blur-screen, evade missiles from hydras or the SAMs at area 69, do long wheelies or stoppies on the highway, etc. anything that you think shows how a vehicle is supposed to be driven, fast and under control. of course, a few messups are hard to avoid, and if the movie is lots of things put together a fall or two is time consuming to fix, so that'll slide, but what i'm really hoping for is people taking all sorts of vehicles in the game and driving for performance. what was said before about this turning into a stunting topic is not exact, but i do think stunts will be a part of the movies here. of course, any wacky thing you want to do with a car is good too; use a car as a bomb to accomplish mass killings, run over as many people as you can in a certain timeframe, etc. So basically, anything involving you staying in a vehicle, driving it, and ending up with something that makes you say "Freakin' Sweet!" a la Peter Griffin, or "D00d!" or "Da*n, that was awesome!" Kinda like I never thought an AT-400 could fly upside down under a bridge; I didn't think there was enough leeway for the plane to not hit a building or drown. However, I videoed myself proving myself wrong. And then I decided to take the WRX STi model I had for a little spin, drifting and rallying down Mt. Chiliad, ending up at the bottom. It's just the little things that you do on the spur of the moment that end up coming out much cooler than you thought. Hope that gives you an idea or something. @Hosko, I'm currently uploading the videos to rapidshare; didn't know you had to sign up to view the videos, and I know rapidshare just has you type in a string of three letters/numbers before you download it, so I'll post the new links in a separate post, maybe as well as the first post, so you guys don't have to sign up to view more of my stuff. I made that Packer jump to the ship before in the first video of the "NITRO" series, with an unmodded Infernus. My last stunt video was "Fueled", but I'd say my best was "NITRO 3". Maybe I'll return to stunting when I upgrade my PC, it barely supports SA right now (too much lagging). I still stunt in VC occasionally, though. It's the one where you were doing all of the Peds on PCJ bumps to airgrabs. It was some really nice stuff. I hope you aren't done, I've loved every single vid you've done or been in.
