Dup
Desktop > Right Click > Properties > Settings Is the colour depth 32 or 16? If its not 32 or you don't have that option, what GFX card do you have. This is clearly a driver problem. I would reccomend re-installing your GFX card drivers and trying the advice offered here. It's at 32-bit (Highest) I'll try re-installing the drivers and get back to if it worked. Also, segosa, I never said it was really too important. I thought I would get a quick fix and it would be over with. Not something with 30+ replies =/ OK, I've re-installed the drivers and the problem still persists Edited March 27, 2006 by xmikester
facugaich
I remember you asking the same thing in the Random Questions topic. So after a few months, several suggestion and 3 or 4 pages of these, there's only one possible solution I can come up with: Re-Installing Windows It seems a bit too drastic, but if it does matter to you that much... Nah, I think I'd just get used to it before I decided to reinstall windows.
jarjar
I had this happen to me once before too, it is the most annoying thing isn't it? It ruwins the background picture and looks really sh*tty. I had to make a new Profile and move everything too it and delete the old one. The my computer crased a few weeks later, so it was all worth it wasn't it? Shoofly
Why cant you just try re-installing iconX, see if that fix it. Atleast you've tried something then.
SWEETSAPRIK
PS: Also, anyone know the folder on windows that stores the desktops? The default ones are in C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper The reason the default wallpapers are either sh!t looking when stretched or tiny when centered is probably because they are all 800x600. I've also never seen the error dialog you posted. As for Windows not using .BMPs, for some reason whenever I select a background (even a .jpg) Windows saves a .BMP version of it in C:\Documents and Settings\<Your logon username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Wallpaper1.bmp Of course I don't know why, and it has nothing to do with your problem. I'm not really understanding your main problem though. As best as I can make out, I think you're saying you want the colored boxes under the icons to display their text, but have a transparent background, which I've never seen. Although I might have misunderstood. So yeah, I'll leave now. PяopagaиdaIиc.

Although I might have misunderstood. So yeah, I'll leave now. Yeah that is what he's wanting, and it does look so much better than fugly boxes. OK, had another little think and quick browse around on t'internet, some folk have had the same problem on Macs as well, and their conclusion was it could be a refresh issue, so becuase of the old IconX program you've had on, the first thing you'll need to do is go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Local Settings\Application Data, and check to see if there is anything there still relating to IconX, if so you don't really need it so delete it, if there is nothing there go back one and check in C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Local Settings\Temp, and do the same there as well. Once you've done that get hold of a Registry Cleaner Program, RegScrubXP is a nice little basic one and will also tidy up your registry while you're at it. Run it and clean it up, then restart. Remember if you have any issues with the deletions then you should just be able to restore them in your Recycle Bin Now your back in the fold, go through the check boxes again (like above) just to make sure, then if still doesn't work, you could try and change the desktop theme to another one, then back again to your preferred one, then try and see if it's sorted. If that doesn't work then kick seven shades of sh*te out of your computer for being a picky little b*stard. GC
