vALKYR
Yeah Foxconn released a 7900GX2 with 2 7900GTX (SLI) to enable Quad SLI on pure PCI-Express x16 (2x) Motherboards. Let's you play FEAR maxed out on HD Resolutions plus 32x SLiAA without problems.

vALKYR
That's ridiculous. I wish so badly that I had the cash for that. Having the cash for it does not really enable you gaming with it. It sucks up so much power that it would be better to start creating weed in your basement.
commando
Anyone know what board will work with the Conroe? I know the ones intel used was a motherboard based on the 975XBX chipset (BadAxe) and the ones with the 975X chipset wont work because of the voltage specification of the chipset for the processor. I didnt see any news about new LGA755 socket motherboards with the 775XBX chipset so if anyone knows any please just say so. I read a Press Release at work the other day from Intel stating new chipsets are fabricated and will be implemented in Asusmotherboards (and others of course) when the Conroe is released. So the current chipsets probably do not work but the LGA775 Platform stays. But you can't change a chipset anyway so I'd suggest buying a new motherboard along with your fresh Conroe Processor. I found some news about a motherboard "conroe ready" without release date, using P965 chipset. Specs: P5B Deluxe – Intel Broadwater chipset with high performance to price ratio Intel Conroe CPU ready and DDR2 800 enabled, the P5B Deluxe is designed with ASUS 8-Phase Power and plenty of silent features among Intel platforms. The P5B Deluxe features Intel P965 chipset for cutting-edge performance and ADI Ad1988B SoundMax high definition audio is the high performance computing solution at an affordable price. * CPU: Intel LGA 775 * Chipset: Intel P965 / ICH8R * FSB: 1066/800/533 MHz * Memory: Up to 8G; 4*DDR2 800/667/533 (Dual Channel) * Graphics Slot: 2 x PCI-E x 16 (1 @x4 mode) * Storage * ICH8R: * SATA 3Gb/s*6 (RAID 0,1,5,10) * Jmicron JMB363: * PATA*1 * SATA 3GB/s*1 + e-SATA*1 (RAID 0,1,0+1,JBOD) * Audio: 8-CH (HD) * LAN: Dual Gb * Form Factor: ATX
Majestic
My prediction in 6 months: Intel comes out with a competitive processor with good pricing - similar to current A64 pricing but a bit cheaper - cheapest dual core is $250 AMD does a big pricecut in response, dual core X2 for $200 Intel's lowest clocked processor becomes the new overclocker special (think Northwood 2.4) AMD is still cheaper due to cheap motherboards edit: 4ghz a64 anyone? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58642 Edited March 20, 2006 by Majestic
Majestic
I'd like to bump this topic and mention that Overvoltage Protection on the 7900GT has been beaten, and people are reaching 7900GTX speeds now. When I get a new soldering iron, I'll volt mod mine.

commando
BUMP! Some guys at XS are already testing Meron and Conroe ES version (Engenering Sample) but still no word what motherboard their using for the Conroe as the 975X might work with a VRM revision still not word about that. But they already received the motherboard for testing featuring ICH7-DH south bridge this might be a clue that they might be using a Intel "Bad Axe" mobo. vALKYR
How's this for a 3DMark06 score? (Not my score btw, I rather get 9500-10000 in 3DMark05. EDIT: 15k 3DMark06 Score on a FX-60 and 7900GTX Edited April 1, 2006 by vALKYR
imheretostay
I understand pretty much nothing of all this hardware talk. Could anyone brief me in a very user friendly way: Can I run Oblivion and other new games such as FEAR, Half Life 2, BF2, on high settings, atleast on the resolution 1024*768, while still maintaining a good fps, with a 3800+ 2.4 Dualcore, 7900GT, 1GB Kingston ram? Its even better when you are running (2x1 gb) ram, preferably with heatspreaders on, And when you run dual ram sticks, you can get performance boosts up to !0% more than the amount inserted. The processor is excellent as well as the video card, only thing left is a good mobo (which isnt as important, but if you want even more power OVERCLOCKing is good as well) Most important is cooling and decent airflow. And from a gamers point of view, the input devices are just as important as the physical hardware inside your pc. Mouse, keyboard etc., Sounds like you have a great system there. I guess I'll get two more coolers. I'm buying a LanBoy Super case to go with the comp, and I have a 60mm and 120mm fan in this comp I'm on now (1.6ghz,FX5200,256SDRAM), so I'd have 4 in total. I am going to upgrade the ram to 2 gigs later on, but my budget won't allow me to get 2 gigs for now. I'm very worried about the graphics card, as I am pretty much only buying this pc to be able to play TES4:Oblivion, but there have been reported lots of problems from owners of cards of the 7900 series. More info is here: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=308536 If my new pc wont run Oblivion, I've pretty much wasted my money, seeing as I am only asking if it will run those other games as a bonus if I should want a break from OB. I am hoping that Bethesda softworks get a grip on themselves and release a patch for the game. They usually take on large projects, and most large projects by any game companies are very bugged when released, OB is no exeption. If a patch or a mod would fix the FPS problems for 7900 owners, it would be a miracle. For now, 90 percent of all 7900 owners have to do with 10-30 fps outdoors, and 40-60 indoors. Oh, and the best part: Some 7800 series owners get 50+ fps outdoors and 70+ indoors. Either Nvidia or Bethsoft HAVE to fix these problems, or some serious customer losses are ahead. Sixdust
Its because of conroe, that I am not getting an AMD system. I would rather wait for this, and when the conroe is released, there will most likely be a few other great technologies.

SIP YEK NOD
the news of the conroe has killed many AMD sales. i myself had 500 bucks in hand to buy an opteron 170 when i read about the conroe. i ended up spending the money on an xbox 360, and in the end decided not to upgrade my computer further until the quad core gaming intels, and dx10 cards, so basically intel created a sale for IBM now, and themselves in the future. edit: 80% overclock on a 7900gt on air anybody? vALKYR
I just wanted to know what motherboard did the guy used to run Conroe, there is already people selling Conroe ES on Ebay. Yep, yesterday someone bought the E6400 (the one I will buy for about 210-230US$ when released) for 600US$. Currently only BadAxe Motherboards (i975XE Chipsets from Intel) support Conroe with modded voltage. The 21sec stock record was made with the 975 chipset. OOOOOOOOOOhHhhhhhh yeah!!!!!!!!! finally add a 6600LE on the board. 3Dmark05 cputest... huge increase !!! from 3008 to 8279 So I wonder what a 7900GTX can do with a Conroe based system vALKYR faints
Sixdust
Just looking at the specs and details about conroe makes me crap my pants. Intel says that they wanted to reinvent themselves, I guess crushing AMD was first proiority, releasing beta chips to a few lucky people as well. This is too great.
