Mike_Toreno
When I'm viewing a certain category (eg: San Andreas General Discussion), on a lot of topics I've noticed that it says "Last posted by: ..." and when I view the topic the last post was by a different member. Anyone know what's up with that or is just a glitch?
Mxyzptlk
I think it's a glitch from the forums timing out so often recently.
Mike_Toreno
I also noticed that when you click on "view latest post" icon next to a topic ( ) it brings you to the second to last page of the topic, anyone know what's up with that? Or is it the same problem Mxy suggested?
SWEETSAPRIK
It's what he said. The post registers, then the person timed out, or got a white page before the fact that it registered registered. You know what I mean. It happens every now and then, more so when the server is acting up. PяopagaиdaIиc.
pdescobar
I also noticed that when you click on "view latest post" icon next to a topic ( ) it brings you to the second to last page of the topic, anyone know what's up with that? Or is it the same problem Mxy suggested? That button is actually "view new posts" (i.e. unread posts) as opposed to "view latest post." As an example, using the SA Easter Egg topic, the link on that button launches this: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=159973&view=getnewpost While the "last post by" link instead launches this: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=159973&view=getlastpost Note the subtle difference in the view argument. Thus if a topic is very active and you haven't looked at it for a while, it may bring you to a page other than the last one because the posts on that page are still new to you. Of course, if nothing in that topic is unread, both links take you to the last post. EDIT: poor phrasing. Mxyzptlk
PD meant to post http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=174800 /end shameless plug Maybe the staff should change all the "getnewpost" commands to "getlastpost" ?
SWEETSAPRIK
Please don't. I actually use the "getnewpost" because it's easier than manually looking for the last post I read. Particularly in topics that move quickly. I don't think either of these really matter though. (At least not in this instance.) I think that if the post appears in the thread, but doesn't show on any of the other pages, then the one before it is seen by the board as being the last post. This is how I understand it. If you've read all the posts in a topic then the last post and the newest post buttons are taking you to the same post. If someone makes a post and it only shows in the topic but not on any above pages, it isn't being counted as the last or newest post, the one before it is. If I'm wrong in thinking that then tell me. pdescobar
PD meant to post http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=174800 /end shameless plug Oops. You're right. I actually used the PS2 screenshots thread in that example; it was some sticky at the top of the SA GD forum and you were the last poster and I assumed or read incorrectly. Maybe the staff should change all the "getnewpost" commands to "getlastpost" ? Please NO! I love the unread post button. I use that thing all the time; if you want the last post, you can always just use the "last post by" link; no need to take the new/unread link away as they have different uses. Mxyzptlk
Yeah you guys are right, my bad. I just need to go to the other screen with "getlastpost" links, rather than lose the feature for our "slower" members.
SWEETSAPRIK
Admittedly this is off topic, but I don't think it's worth making a whole new one so I'll just chuck it in here as an offtopic comment. I've never understood why the sections show links to the first three pages of a thread, and then the last. I would think having a link to the first two and last two would make more sense. Say you miss a post or two on the page that just kicked over, and you've marked all posts as read. There is no one button that can take you to that page. I mean it's only one extra click so it's not a big deal at all, I only even mention it because I often have to open the last page, then click back a page, whereas I've never looked at a thread and thought "man I really need to read what's on page #3." Meh, just curious. PяopagaиdaIиc.
