BenMillard
Sorry about giving you such a hard time over Curveshire about, erm, three years ago. As the GTA series has become more complicated, the modding community has become more sophisticated. One of the things which makes me so proud of GTA modding is that it's our own work. It's a bunch of young people from around the world being creative across a big range of computing disciplines, without funding or an SDK, just through sharing our intelligence and inspiration. Every year I see brand new innovations, new names with new ideas and talents. The amount of knowledge modders have gained over the years is astonishing, especially how professional the modern tools like GGMM, CE2 and MEd are. Look at all the gameplay features pioneered by us modders in GTA1/2 which appeared in GTA3. Look at how the realism of projects posted in the vehicle showroom influenced the styling of GTASA. The community pushes the envelope so far that R* struggle to keep ahead. GTA modding will always be exciting, for me at least. AleXXX
It's pity, that you leave from GTA-modding. Yours LOTs for MI were very good. The community has lost one more talent. Gta3 series is a new game engine so Gta4 must have better game engine like realtime shadows or reflections and maybe better handling... and about MI I think that we should start all over from textures recheck to teh building mesh check to MI will have one theme/atmosphere There is probability, that R* make GTA 4 on RenderWare (though, EA has bought Criterion)... Soon GTA-modding death? Edited March 8, 2006 by AleXXX
Mark
Depends on the file format of the new engine, if there is one. Hopefully R* will be able to get rid of all the hot coffee fiasco, and not lock the next game for modding. If they do, I presonally am not buying it, for PS3 or PC. I think locking it is shooting themselves in the foot a bit, after all, games are usually legendary and survive for 2 reasons, they're either great online games, or the can be modded. Shame to hear you've given up modding Opie, I still love wandering around your MI lots, maybe you'll get some motivation when the Northern Islands are disected eh? You better do, cause there's an awful lot of space that just needs your excellent work . - GTAuron
Cran.
It's a shame to lose such a great modeler. I might take a look though some of your myriad lots, maybe finish some Me too, i've been slowed down my SA. Due to still using Zmod 1.07b and Zmod2 being such a bitch, it's hard to get my stuff ingame. And all these new formats can be confusing. Oh well, Myriad still has me working on lots and cars
steve-m
after all, games are usually legendary and survive for 2 reasons, they're either great online games, or the can be modded. ...what means that if GTA4 is a MMOG, or at least has a multiplayer mode (and I'm pretty sure it will), they don't need us anymore. BenMillard
All the really successful online games became such a success because they were moddable, and because the games publisher helped the modding community. Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Battlefield, etc. A game's modding is always worth the tiny investment it requires to get started.
[email protected]
Opius you were a great modder, it's a shame to see you leave the scene. I know how you feel as I'm starting to lose interest and motivation too. You contributed alot to the community and we won't forget that. The same thing is actually happening to me, f*ck it, c'est la vie, we move on..
AleXXX
Many singleplayer games are supported by developers. For example, TrackMania, FarCry, HL2. For me, R* modding support isn't obligatory. But! Ignore mods, as they do, is silly. Maby they'll understand it, but will be already late. I don't leave hope, that Opius'll return.
