Hunter¥
I think it's about time I got rid of my trusty CRT monitor. As much as I love it, I need to upgrade. I'm in the market for an LCD, obviously. I'd like some advice as to what to look for. I'm upgrading for gaming purposes, and don't want to be stuck with any old piece of crap flat panel I randomly pick off the shelf from Staples (cringe). I'd like to buy from specifically this place. From what I've seen, they have the best prices I've ever seen, and they have a store close by. So those are my options. I'm willing to pay $700 MAX and would prefer 19+ inches. Btw, I'm Canadian, and so is that store, so take that into consideration when looking at the price. Thanks.
GTA3Freak-2001
Basically you'd want any of the brands listed on that site with a 8ms rating or less, I've got a BenQ 17" 8ms LCD and its been great. But anything from LG, Phillips, Viewsonic, Acer, BenQ , and Samsung are good quality brands.
|Zephyr|
I'm using a phillips 17" atm and that has been good to me. That was only $450AUD. I might just point out to you that phillips and samsung are the only two brands that will over a 0 dead pixel warrenty for 3 years. With other brands, if you get a dead pixel its bad luck, and a pain in the arse! and you have to wait until you get 4 or 5 dead pixels until you can claim warrenty, and you might never get that many! GTA3Freak-2001
Yeah the dead pixels thing can be a problem but if you buy from an actual store ask them to check it before buying.

AZAZEL
I can recommend the Samsung SyncMaster 913N, although a bit old it's an awesome monitor. I know there's some newer versions of it by now, though. ~az
Majestic
You can buy a dell lcd when they do their sales again But you need to dedicate some time to it tho. Most of the sales are 1-day that said, the 19" 8-bit color 1905FP was $329 before christmas and its a sweeeet monitor. At work i use a Samsung 915N - I think it is great for games, but color is garbage. I wouldnt buy one, personally, as its $400 and the dell 1905fp is better and cheaper. For $500 you can get a dell 2005FP and its a f*cking amazing screen And for $850 you can get a dell 2405FP which is 24" HDTV-res 8-bit lcd... of course, those prices only happen during their specials. And if you're a really frugal shopper, theres some 20% off coupons floating around other online forums right now as well.
Demarest
Basically you'd want any of the brands listed on that site with a 8ms rating or less No. LCD's are the ONE thing you should never buy without seeing it first. I used to work at a computer shop back when LCD's first flooded the market. I can't think of anythng more annoying than those people who came in "well I read that they should have (factor X) of at least/no more than Y" while there's a shelf full of them powered on, ready for perusal. Burned pixels are not as big a deal as some people would have you believe. I have a 17" whose native res is 1024x768. Most 17's now are 1280x1024 though. Imagine a single pixel being dead. You'd never really notice. Get a few and yes, it could be annoying. As recommended, have them plug it in before you take it home. Next thing to consider is how big your current monitor is. If it's 17", then your viewable size would be more like 15.9". Whereas a TFT is true viewable. While one inch diagonal might not seem like much, you'd be surprised. It's been years since I've used a 17" CRT and this thing still looks like a billboard to me. A 19" for what I use it for would be way too large. Last (and probably least) is aesthetics. How good is the bezel and the base? I wish mine was capable of swivel and possibly even a greater downward angle. Best of all though, the top edge of the bottom of the bezel sits well above my small but powerful speakers. It's as if they were made for each other and if mine died today, I would consider tha "feature" a must.

Dalpura
I use 17" Acer LCD's. Very good quality and brilliant for gaming. Recommended. I've got two Acer AL1714 LCDs, and I swear by them. All the appropriate details and pricings are there. They're actually considerably cheaper now then when I originally bought mine, pretty decent prices really. They come in different colours if that matters to you, mine's a dark silver with a black base. In just over a year, I've got one dead pixel between the two. But honestly, even knowing it's there (near centre), it'd take me a minute to find it and point it out. Note: Amazon says 14ms response, but Acer and the packaging mine came in say 8ms.
