A lot of people are excited by this prospect, others feel let down by Rockstar having bought a PSP for LCS. The following is a topic with articles from magazines (their own opinions and speculations) and internet release dates (not confirmed) Some which may not have been read by or known of to members on GTAF. Articles from popular PS2 magazines Playstation 2 Official Magazine-UK You could soon be taking Toni Cipriani for another spin around Liberty City, but it wont be on the PSP this time. Take 2, Rockstar’s parent company, has just announced plans to ‘extend Liberty City Stories to the PS2 environment’. There’s no specific information yet but a ‘special edition’ of the game with extra content is likely. Check out our top three most-hoped for features. 1. Multiplayer Madness – Just imagine the WiFi multiplayer games but running online on PS2. 24-player deathmatch on Staunton Island anyone? New game modes and a San Andreas-style co-op system are also a possibility. 2. Fresh Looks and Meat Hooks – We’re not expecting a full San Andreas shopping system, but a few new threads would be cool – especially as skins for the multiplayer game. Extra weapons and power-ups should also make an appearance. 3. Flying High In New Rides – Extra cars would be welcome but we want to fly. You can already pilot a helicopter in LCS on PSP – but it involves cheating and is only possible on one mission. But there’s no excuses for not having choppers in the PS2 version. March 2006 issue of Playstation 2 Official Magazine-UK is out on the 23rd of February. PSW PS2 LIBERATED! Ready yourself for another PS2-based trip to Liberty City. Rockstar has announced that a PS2 version of LCS is in the works and will be released later this year. While it’s not quite the pants-dampening GTA news we were hoping for, we’ll bank on the game proving to be more than a mere stopgap title to keep us amused until news of a next-gen step forward for the series emerges. After all, the PSP version wasn’t just a bite-sized complement to the previous PS2 games; it was great in its own right and moving it to PS2 will only improve the experience. What we’ll likely get is a buffed-up version of the game with new features included to bring it more into line with the previous three PS2 versions. So, what can we expect to see on our third visit to Liberty City? Well, the few complaints that were levelled at LCS were to do with the compromises it had to make due to the limitations of the PSP. The main grumbles concerned multiple button presses to control the camera, no planes or helicopters and a smaller overall map compared to the epic San Andreas. Expect all of this to be addressed by the genius game makers at Rockstar North. Bigger maps, new missions and even new characters are in the works. Music has always been an important feature in GTA games, and while the soundtrack to LCS was impressive, it wasn’t huge. With more space to play with on PS2, that’ll change, and we should see a track list at least as lengthy as those of the previous non-portable GTA games. Also, loading times will probably cease to exist and free-flowing driving between districts is a given. That’s just for starters. It’ll be interesting to see exactly what Rockstar does to surprise us and keep the series fresh. New vehicles, a new plot or new weapons? We’ll have more exclusive screens and footage next month as well as news on those ‘surprise’ extras Rockstar are so good at. Next issue of Playstation PSW is out on the 2nd of March. PSM Take 2’s yearly financial report and it’s plans for this year have been revealed. And they say that GTA: LCS will be coming to PS2. Well it says “a current generation console”, but Rockstar tell us that it is PS2 bound. It could be one of two things. It could be a direct (although souped-up) port of the PSP game, or it’s a brand new set of ‘Stories’ for another character. We think the latter. Would Rockstar really foist an identical (or even near-identical) copy of LCS on us? We seriously doubt it. If you remember the special DVD that came with the San Andreas soundtrack (‘The Introduction’), you’ll remember that a large portion of it followed CJ’s exploits as a no-good criminal in, of all places, Liberty City. Maybe the game will follow his early years before the events of San Andreas? PSM reckons whatever it is, they have to change the city significantly. We cannot run around LC again – we know every shortcut, alleyway, nook, cranny and sidestreet. We need something new, Rockstar. Maybe they could expand it? Or have it in another time period? And not just 10 years earlier – we mean the future, or the distant past. Just something different. Ta. Next issue of PSM is out on the 9th of March. All magazine's claim to have a “full blowout” of LCS (with pictures and info) for the PS2 in their next issues. The thing about R* which i have said in the past was, if you were offered a couple fo million quid for re-hashing a product which doesn't cost a lot to make, you would do it, and this is the case with R*. The April issue is out on the 23rd of March. The March issue of PSW also contained no news, pics or articles on LCS for the PS2. The April issue is out on the 30th March. The March issue of PSM, I didn’t bother to buy, because the previous issue they stated there would be a “huge blowout” of LCS for PS2, I went to the shops today and it had nothing on the cover of GTA (it was sealed so I couldn’t check inside) but if LCS was to be shown in the issue, something would have indicated so on the outside packaging. Some gaming websites have however changed their respective release dates for LCS – Amazon is still going with 1st May 2006 play.com is now saying 5th May 2006 GAME UK is also sticking with April 2006 I did some individual hunting for info on the game and a site called PSX Extreme claimed the game was to be released on April 17th. Gamespot had an official statement from Take Two, no info on a date, just that the price could be fairly cheaper than a normal new PS2 game. Well I only played LCS for about an hour before. I couldn't get into it. Now I now how those guy (my mates aswell) felt when playing other GTA's. Most of them couldn't get into it because of the graphics. Ever know someone who you know would be into GTA if they gave it time. Say your mate or whatever, likes the same movies, same GTA humour, violence etc. They they never bother to get it?? Maybe I put them off it by talking about it too much. hehehe So, i'm really excited about this game. I felt really down upon realising that there will be no GTA IV for a very long time. This, i'm sure will tie me over. Man, to think about flying about LCS is great. I really hope they include this feature. What about swimming? Do you think they will include this? I also hope they add more clothes too. Maybe some good interiors. Nost people with a PS2 on these forums are gonna have this game. Also i'd love to see some peoples interpretations of this games improvements (if any) for the PS2 version. As I said in an earlier post, I'd love if the games memory is bigger ( like when you leave a car somewhere, you can go back and expect it to still be there.) I did some research on a few different sites to hunt down any "snippets" of info, sadly not much has changed since the last update. Amazon.co.uk and GAME are unchanged in their release dates (1st May 2006 & April 2006 respectively) However play.com has changed again, and is now saying 2nd June 2006. Gamespot (which I assume is an American site) has LCS down for 24th April 2006, which was a date shared with ign.com. So why go through the whole development process again to make a new game for an soon-obsolete console. Just sell the same game with the same old city to a whole bunch of people who probably don't have a psp but would still like to play LCS. I was planning to get it since I heard it had online play and having played vice city online (which was so f*cking fun ) I would have enjoyed it, but it seems that my isp has issues with online games and kills my connection when I'm really kicking ass creating lots of Lag and pissing everyone off. (sorry) So i'm not getting it. Tell me how it is if ya do. I'm glad I bought the game when it came out because, well, it's like a vice city I can put in my pocket. wtf... how could I pass on that. So I got together my little savings and money from grandma and such and bought a psp off ebay just for lcs. (Spend a whole $250 my ass. My psp cost me as much as my slim ps2.) You're damn right it's worth it. Vids, online games, and above all homebrew software. I used to think my palm pilot was amazing for being able to show pictures... Rockstar are only trying to please the fans by doing exactly what the fans want, for example: When everyone finished SA first time aroun what did everyone complain about?? "Aww i wish liberty city was in the game, it sucked only having one mission in it!! I miss it, i wish rockstar would go back there" so now rockstar are going back there and your all bloody moaning about it. get over it.
