bluejeans
Has anyone made a speedo mod for the 2 old skool gta's? If not, surely there's a data file somewhere that says what each car's top speed is - which one is it?

BenMillard
There is no speedo mod for GTA1 or GTA2. However, in GTA1 there is a speedometer which was used during testing of the game. It can be unlocked using a cheat code. On the PC, type "porkcharsui" as your name and confirm that name. You'll hear a different sound to normal. You can leave your name as this or change it to something else. You can even type in other cheat codes so more things are unlocked. When you now start the game, press "C" and you'll get a few lines of text at the top center of the screen. These include your map position in 3D coordinates (measured using game cubes, which are the size of a normal car). It will also show you speed in Miles per Hour and your damage as a percentage. You can press the "*" key to get full ammo in all four weapons, too. There is a similar thing for GTA2 but it doesn't use Miles per Hour. Instead, it uses a gamer timing ratio which goes from zero (stopped) to 1 (maximum possible speed). The top speeds of GTA2 cars are defined in the nyc.gci file, which you can open in Notepad. However, this file uses the weird ration value as well, so you can't tell the real speed of GTA2 cars.
