nomec
anyone else find it annoying in the PC version where you have to pan the camera while in a vehicle with your mouse? It is annoying having to keep the camera behind my vehicle at all times. Is there a way to turn this off or what?
Mainland Marauder
I'd strongly consider investing in a controller worthy of GTA for your PC. I can only imagine how much working with a mouse and keypad has to suck on PC. One of the upsides of playing on a console... I couldn't disagree more with you, but maybe its just me, but I love my mouse and keyboard, wireless, easy to use, lightweight. great! What do you mean "keep" the camera behind the vehicle? It stays there by itself
nomec
like you can still pan the camera with the mouse while driving, so when you turn the camera doesnt automatically follow behind the car. Thats what i mean when I say you have to follow the car manually with your mouse. I just dont like the fact that you have to try not to move the mouse while you are driving. Mainland Marauder
I'm sure "Vertical Bird" is a real blast on the keyboard... Bryce, I'm sure you've gotten used to it and it may well suit you. But really, games like this need game controllers IMO. GTAThomas
I would refuse to play GTA without a mouse and Keyboard, alot easier IMO. IIRC, you dont have to move the camera with your hand, it stays fine for me.
nomec
ya but dont you like to have your hand on the mouse at all times? that means you have to keep your hand steady while driving in order not to mess the camera up.
gillies
ya but dont you like to have your hand on the mouse at all times? that means you have to keep your hand steady while driving in order not to mess the camera up. You don't have to have your hand on the mouse all the time although that may have been their intention. I always changed the controls so the up and down arrows are accelerate and reverse and use those buttons to drive the vehicles. The camera will line up with the car after a few seconds but I agree that it would have been helpful if it was a bit faster sometimes. You will get used to it though. I'm sure "Vertical Bird" is a real blast on the keyboard... I always found that mission to be fine with a keyboard. Most of the SnPs for this mission I believe are also from people that just don't like flying or always crash their plane or get shot down, rather than having a specific problem with the controls. I couldn't disagree more with you, but maybe its just me, but I love my mouse and keyboard, wireless, easy to use, lightweight. great! I would refuse to play GTA without a mouse and Keyboard, alot easier IMO. I agree with you guys, I have noticed that I have several parts in this computer that, when new, individually cost more than an XBox 360 would but I like to use a PC and the keyboard and mouse controls are part of that (although unlike Bryceroni69's, my keyboard and mouse are of a far cheaper variety). Torcidas
dude, using the mouse is really simple. if it moves around too fast, change the sensitivty. when you are driving, if you do not use your mouse, the camera will stay behind the vehicle perfectly fine. it is absolutely appropriate to buy a gamePAD, but it isnt what i would be using for other games, especially FPS games. there is nothing better and more accurate to aim with than the mouse. Bryce.
@Nomec: Are you sure you don't have the setting "steer with mouse" on?
Brad
Well I found it "differant" with mouse and keyboard. But since then im used to it. I have Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick(Flight Sim) and thats it. In conclusion: Im used to it.

disco
I've got used to using the keyboard, and I find it very easy to play with. I still find it easy to play with the control pad on the PS2, though. It's cool how we can adapt to play the same game with different controls. Mainland Marauder
I don't have SA for the PC so I'm just speculating that it's cumbersome. With the keyboard only recognizing three keys pressed at a time it seems it would be rather clumsy trying to steer the plane, drop countermeasures, lock on and blow up the other plane. shazard
Yeah, for flying gamepad is best option (if u happen to have one, my kids have stolen mine). But its guite managable to lfy with keys if you just have assigned keys well. If I was a rich man I'd get me one of these: http://www.ergodex.com/content.php?id=
Mike_Toreno
I'm going to have to agree with Bryce on this one. I enjoy playing SA with a keyboard and mouse, in some parts more than using a controller, and in other parts less. It varies on what you actually control/are doing in the game. Things like flying the Hydra I prefer using a controller, and things like shooting/aiming I choose to use the mouse, etc. I did buy a gamepad, though. So I just switch with whatever I feel comftorble with at the time.
GTA3Freak-2001
Try learning to control the vehicle with WASD with your left hand and have your right hand on the mouse so you look whereever you want anytime you want. That's how I think Rockstar intended it to be but it doesn't suit all people.

There isn't any three keys maximun on a keyboard. Certain combinations of many keys will not work (cat proof), but I have never had that affect me in vertical bird, or any other time in the game (except doing a donut in driving school). nada
It's cool how we can adapt to play the same game with different controls.[/color] I hope it happens quick...I just got GTA:SA for the PC and it's pretty tough right now... I also haven't had time to sit down and play for an extended period of time.
sapper_astro
You will get used to it. I hate going back to the old Vice City way now. The mouse look has become second nature.
spaceeinstein
...I recommend using Vice City's controls over San Andreas' controls. With Vice City's controls, there is only one key combination that locked up my keyboard while flying. Keyboard and mouse are really good if you have the right controls and if you know how to use it well....
Smellton
I have a gamepad, but I still use the keyboard and mouse. Why? Because I find it easier, the only time you need to use the mouse in the car is if you want to move the camera around, otherwise it stays behind the car. colblair64
So i've been doing a search on the topic but I cant find anything on it: Is there a target lock on feature at all in the PC version of SA? I ask because they always mention it in the info blips and the keyboard mapping screen. Just text from a direct port to pc? I just got it the other day and cant find any way to employ a strictly lock on system. Plenty of manual tho. Appreciate your time.
gillies
You can get auto aiming by changing your configuration from mouse & keys to joypad in the controller settings, but if you do this you can't point the camera with the mouse anymore (or at least it stopped working when I did this, and I couldn't find anything that enabled it again), so I think it's a pretty bad trade, you will get better at manually aiming after a while anyway.
