Rocketkiller
I have a program that will take a webcam feed and broadcast it on the internet with a java applet, but the problem is I have a router and it doesn't work outside of the network. What I need to do is configure the router to send all the information form a certain port to my computer. The router's a Trendnet TEW-431BRP. What can this setting be called, if my router even has it?
Luke15
Yea you need to enable port forwarding, if you google it, youl get much more detailed information on it.
Rocketkiller
No that's something different. Port forwarding on my router(and all the routers I had in the past) just opened ports for information.
Wolf68k
Right. You want people to access the program on your system that is displaying the web cam image. The program is a server, so you need to open a port in the router to allow the server to be accessed. If you're using a program like YahooIM or MSN then there shouldn't be an issuse, but it couldn't hurt to open the ports for which ever one anyway. Rocketkiller
The problem is, to acess it you need to type in the ip adress of the computer with the program running. But it only works on networked computers when I type in the internal ip adress of the computer. If I type in the external ip it doesn't work. I already forwarded the port needed. Luke15
You cant view things hosted on a computer from a computer inside the network. You need to go through a web proxy to view it externally.

I can't find anything like trigger prot on my router's settings.
Luke15
Preety much, or just phone up a mate and ask him / her to see if your webcam page is working.
Rocketkiller
So then how would I set up a web proxy?
Luke15
So then how would I set up a web proxy? Just search on google for web proxies. You dont need to setup your own, there are free ones out there.
Rocketkiller
Never mind this, I found an option called virtual server on my router's config page. Set it up and it and it works perfectly. Restarted the computer and it doesn't work. Edited February 19, 2006 by rocketkiller
