nabed4t
While playing SA the game cuts out certain sounds, for example while a car chase is occuring and the passengers are shooting sound effects like tyres squeeling or people screaming are cut out, only the gun fire is heard. When the firing stops the ambiant noises resume. Could this be a problem caused by a dated sound card, also this doesnt seem to occur in other games, also when characters are talking occasionaly their voices will go very low almost in audioable. Thank you. P.S if this is a problem with the sound card, whats a good card to buy? Thanks again. Regards, Dan My System is. Win XP Pro SP2. GeForce 6600 256Mb P4 2.8 Ghz 768Mb RAM I also have Realtek AC'97 Audio.

Smellton
There isn't really a fix for that, your best bet would be to patch the game, as that says it fixes the problem, but I tried it myself and it didn't seem to do much.

Tried that. Did absoulutly everyhting at people say about here (usually the basics liek drivers and carp). Think the problem lies more with the settings in windows or the game. The sounds do seem to work fine up untill it rains then they suddenly f*ck up. I'll keep working on the problem and if I come up with a solution I'll let you all know. The Schmoo
You're telling us everything except the model of the motherboard...it could be a specific brand of integrated sound causing this, bad drivers, could be a few things.
magel
Try lowering sound acceleration in "dxdiag", also turn down sound quality in the game.

I think you're right, I've got the RealTec AC97 onboard audio and occasionally sounds drop out. Or get muted. Pretty cool, actually, to hear my dual mini-uzi's sound like machine-silencers! (but annoying after the first couple times.)
nookadum
This is a known epidemic for those who use their on-board audio, especially for those with C-Media 8738/9739A (which, sadly, I have) or certain Realtek SoundMAX chipsets. Even if you update your drivers to the latest version or use alternate drivers, the problem will still occur when it rains or when multiple sounds play (I'm thinking when 8 or more play) simultaneously. The only fix for this is to set your sound accelration down to "Basic". You can do this two ways: DirectX Diagnostic Tool: 1. Click on your Start button, and select "Run". 2. Type in "dxdiag.exe", and press Enter. 3. Let it load up a bit, then select the Sound 1 (or Primary Sound) tab. 4. Lower the "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" down to "Basic acceleration". The other way to do this: 1. Click on your Start button, and go to Control Panel. 2. Double-click/select Sound and Audio Devices. 3. Click on the "Advanced..." button in the "Speaker settings" section. 4. Click on the "Performance" tab, and move the first slider down to "Basic acceleration". The problem with doing this on C-Media devices is that the game performance will severly drop (e.g. heavy FPS drop) when it rains or when a lot of sounds occur, regardless of having a powerful CPU and/or GPU. BTW, if anyone knows how to set those above options to be SPECIFIC for ONE GAME only (i.e. gta_sa.exe will only use Basic accelration instead of any other games), please post it here or PM me. It does get quite annoying when you have to do the above process everytime you want to play San Andreas.
