Vin.
And reports are just in that hell has frozen over...As unlikely as it may seem, Sony and Microsoft could very well be developing games together in the future. According to Tetsuhiko Yasuda, Sony Computer Entertainment Asia’s corporate executive managing director and senior vice president of Asia, Sony does not regard Xbox as a competitor. Rather, the company may even consider working with Microsoft to develop games together, Yasuda said. However judging from the article at DigitTimes, one of the leading Asian websites for Tech news who spoke to Tetsuhiko Yasuda, it is still a bit unclear if Yasuda was referring to the Asian market only when he made the comment. Either way I think the much too common view that Sony and Microsoft are these to giants that hate each other’s guts and will only settle for world domination is a bit skewed to say the least. In fact there seems to be a lot of respect and admiration between the two companies. There is room for more than one player in the console marketed, and both companies seem to agree on that. Again, we all know how easy it is to take a comment out of context, so how concrete these plans for a joint game project between Sony and Microsoft really are is impossible to tell. So don’t expect Sony and Microsoft to announce anything soon. Source What do you guys think?

Grandthefter
I think it's a good idea, im still waiting for the day when they join forces and make a playbox or something like that. Then thats all fanboyism out of the window, and the best console on the market all at one time. Games will have to do for now. But i dunno if this is true or now, i'll wait until ones announced until i believe this.
Alick
Sounds great to me, at least it will kill stupid fanboy arguments.

Cran.
When this happends, world peace will be declared. Face it, they're both big greedy buisnesses and nothing will change that. Edited February 19, 2006 by Cran.
Platinum.
Meh, if the two companies join together to make an amazing game then I'm all for it, but if the game isn't very good there's going to be arguements over who's fault it was, Sonys or Microsofts? Rob.
I think that if they do their calculations and predict to make a bigger profit when combined, than just as two singular companies, and there isn't a clash of titans and ideas, then i would be all fo rit, however, i find it highly unlikely this will happen. AshFire
It would be a good and bad thing. If the two giants did join together they would have a monopoly of the console market practically (which im not even sure if that is legally allowed) and then would be able to rise their prices as there is hardly any competition. On the other hand as someone else said above it would be good to get rid of this fanboyism and would probably spark off the creation of some awesome games and consoles in the future. But it can happen.. i still remember back in the day when nintendo and sega were the two giants... now u get sega games on a nintendo console. a few years ago people would have laughed at that idea
hawk
Thats lame. Sony & Microsoft as enemies are competing to make the best product. Together they control the market and release sub standard stuff, because they know it will sell, and charge what they want.
Venom
Sounds sweet, as long as I get me a ninja game, I'm content.
All this Crap
Thats lame. Sony & Microsoft as enemies are competing to make the best product. Together they control the market and release sub standard stuff, because they know it will sell, and charge what they want. There is still Nintendo, unless you don't regard them as competition. I think it could work, without all that happening. They don't have to jack the prices since both companies have deep pockets.
_-playero-_
What we should have is a Google-Sony-Microsoft-Symantec-Nintendo-Motorola-Nokia game console...
Mercie
This just in, Microsoft and Macintosh declare they are going to make an OS together. So, either the stunning ability of Windows to be able to do crazy sh*t but crash with email and Mac's ability to get people to like cheap graphics... Or the nicest set of graphics on the smoothest operating system.... mmmm Oh well. It's a joke for those of you who take these matters seriousily. At least the Windows OSX part is. just another thug
The article clearly states this would occur in the Asian market. XBox is definately not a big factor in the Asian market, it's similar to the Sega Saturn here. With that being said, Microsoft making games on the Playstation platform makes sense since releasing the game game on an XBox platform wouldn't draw nearly the same profit, in the Asian market. There is no competition between Sony and Microsoft in Asia, it's Nintendo and Sony. It's not the big end of the world ordeal that you all make it out to be. Actually, it's not even very suprising. kevin2006rhs
As a side thought, what do you think they would they call the companies if they merged? Sonysoft? Microsony?
Mr. Coke
If they did merge (which, we all know, will never happen) they would probably make a new name all together. But Sony and Microsoft selling games together sounds like a great idea. It may be unlikely but just think, Halo 3 on the PS3... If Microsoft can't make the cut in the Asian market, then why the hell should Sony, let alone anyone, help them sell their software? Oh yeah, money, my bad. But hypothetically, Halo 3 on the playstation in any market would undermine any exclusivity and all around uniqueness that one company has to offer over the other. Besides, if the Asian market had any genuine interest in proprietary Xbox titles, then the console would have no problems building market share in the first place. Competition is a true catalyst for innovation, and these two are already showing poor innovation as it is.
