Drowning
I've decided that instead of a little pc clean my computer needs to be completely wiped to allow me to start a fresh. I've backed up everything I wish to keep and I'm sure I have the necessary disks but I'm not entirely sure how I reboot my system. I'm sure there's a site out there that will give me a walkthrough I can print off but I can't find one anywhere. If anyone could give me instructions or point me to where I could locate the latter, I would be much obliged. Thanks, ~Sam.
Mr. Coke
As I recall, and what I had to do with my previous PC, was to use the "Start-up" disk that was given with your PC. It will have all the instructions you need to do a "Freshy" and make the PC like new. If you don't have a start-up disk, then I don't know what to do. I'm sure there are many other ways though. Wolf68k
reboot means to restart reformat is the word you're looking for which means to completely erase the HDD (hard disc drive) and then format it again so that it is again useable. Reinstalling the OS depends on if you bought a copy of XP or if your system is a Dell, HP, or whatever. If it is a Dell/HP/whatever then you have to use their system recovery system which will rebuilt the system back to factor default, which means a lot of crap preinstalled that you don't know and I won't go off on my rant on that. If you bought your own copy of XP then you can put the CD in the drive and boot from it and and have it erase, format and reinstall the OS for you. Thanks wolf, I'll try that now.
Drowning
I've done it all and am sitting with a reformatted pc infront of me. The only thing I've had a problem with is conecting to the internet on it. On my laptop I just had to plug in the ethernet cable and it was automatically configured, on this I can't for the life of me get it to work. I'm on a 10mb broadband internet connection, any help would be great. I got it. Edited February 18, 2006 by Drowning
