Review:

BF2: MC is an expansion to the console gaming scene from the largely popular Battlefield series. This game, like its big brother (Battlefield 2), is gritty, modern warfare. You have a fun but slightly repetitive single player game, which allows you to take control of different military groups (such as Chinese or US), and play out missions in a handful of different countries. But the real gem of Modern Combat is the online play. MC has a good selection of maps available (deserts, woodland, urban etc.) and a very narrow selection of game types, Capture the flag and Conquest. Conquest consists of two armies (depending on map) going in a full out battle to gain and maintain posts, while on the other hand, capture the flag consists of one obvious thing. One obvious and very upsetting downfall to Modern Combat is the almost disgusting size of the armory. You have the choice between 5 different classes (medic was merged with support) which are, Assault, Sniper, Special Ops, Support, and Engineer.

Graphics:

BF2 MC isnt state of the art with graphics, but it looks pretty sharp. Very rarely do you get a lagging effect, and almost all images have crisp, clean edges. Online the graphics dont change much, except for the occasional bug.

Overall: 7/10

Sound:

If you have surround sound, you best be turning it on as you play this. Only with surround sound to you get the full effect of being in a war zone. If a helicopter goes down behind you, trust me, youll know. The sound from just the speakers isnt anything to sneeze at either. The weapons sound great, you can hear the shells hit the ground, vehicles have a nice purr to them, and the helicopter will give you a nice taste of explosions.

Overall: 8/10

Gameplay:

BF 2 has a unique game play, that I havent seen anywhere else. Instead of playing as one player only, you have the ability to Hot Swap with team-mates (that you can see). The Hot Swap feature is very different, and may not be your type of feature, but it definitely helps you out if one of your team-mates has a vantage point on the enemy (Note this is only on single player). Online is a whole different story. In the online community, you need to watch out for yourself, since your team most likely wont. Everyone has a certain skill level too, that will take time to achieve. The biggest flaw in game play I find is the hit chart, or in simpler term, how many bullets it takes to drop some one. I am really disappointed with this fact, it takes four bullets (no matter where shot) do drop an enemy. Even if you hit him/her in the head, you better have three more heading in the same direction.

Overall: SP: 6/10 Online: 9/10

Storyline:

The storyline doesnt really follow anything, its random at best. You play as a few different types of armies (Chinese, US, MEC etc.) and play out a certain amount of missions for each army. I find that most missions are quite interesting to play, and you rarely have to do the same thing twice. As you get closer to the end, the gameplay turns from fun to annoying. Let me just give you a hint, but a codebreaker for the final mission, unless you want to but a new paddle.

Overall: 8/10

Summary:

BF2 MC has some great single player features, but was obviously meant to take the same road as its brother, which is online play. I would definitely recommend this game for any fan of first person shooters, or war games in general. If you are into realism, this game probably is not for you.

Overall: 7.8/10

This game is pretty cool, I rented it and I'm considering to about buying it (Xbox).

The online portion is good too, I enjoy it more than Halo 2 (I was going to but that, but I think I will buy this instead). I kind of suck on it though, the most points I've managed to get is like 23. I'd say my favorite kit is Special Op.
