EmSixTeen
Sony PS3 Hard Drive Sold SeparatelyBy Sam Barron The official Playstation Global site lists the PS3 HDD and other components as sold separately Sony Playstation 3 PS3 HDD sold separately The official Playstation Global site, has a PS3 spec sheet up and interestingly enough the PS3’s various storage media – including the HDD and memory are described as “sold separately.” Which leads to the assumption that the PS3 hard drive will not be bundled with the PS3. Halfway down the Flash-animated page there is a line stating: "Storage / HDD: Detachable 2.5" HDD slot x 1," which really is no surprise. However, when you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you find the obvious footnote which discribes the HDD as sold separately. So now the question remains; will the PS3 have two SKU’s? One with all the bells and whistles, and one “core” bundle with the bare necessities? We will keep you updated on any developments. Source. Ridiculous. Vin.
So? Who cares? They're going to sell them wether they copy Microsoft in selling their products the same way or do bundle it in with it. What's so rediculous about it? Sorry if I missed something.
Dup
Sony have ALWAYS done this and they've said this since the begining. Also, its been roumoured for a September release according to Hexus.
Grandthefter
How many times did they have to say it was sold seperatley in that quote? Anyway, i'll be going for the full bundle once it becomes available for pre-order
TOGA62
any idea on a possible price though? thats going to determine if I can afford it or not. I still think it sucks that they are doing that. But to be honest, they sold sh*t seperate for the PS2 as well. I just thought they might have wanted to stick it to microsoft and do one better. Guess not. Social: TOGA62 PS3: balltowellamp
Smellton
But I thought the PS3's hard drive was in-built?
Exkabewbikadid
But I thought the PS3's hard drive was in-built? That's why it's called rumors, hearsay and marketing hype. At one point they were calling this thing a supercomputer that would ship with Linux installed. Half my ass.
Mr. Coke
We can't be to sure until it is released, then we will know the true facts. Still, the information given is crazy, I hope it is another rumor...
EmSixTeen
Sony have ALWAYS done this and they've said this since the begining. They didn't know any better beforehand with the releases of PSX and PS2. This is just stupid, but of course people will buy it anyway. Gah.. Rob.
Hang on, yes the hardrive is sold seperately, but it also said that you could buy better memory seperaley, is this referring to RAM or something meaning that the core, won't run, or look s nearly as good as the full one?? I'll be pre-ordering ym complete PS3 when it's available, i'm not taking any chances.
just another thug
They keep blurring the line between PC and Console gaming. If there is an ability to add RAM and the whole bit then that's getting a bit ridiculous.
_-playero-_
They keep blurring the line between PC and Console gaming. If there is an ability to add RAM and the whole bit then that's getting a bit ridiculous. Yeah, I can see already all the rich kids saying "Hey, my PS3 is better because it has more RAM, pwnage!" Which reminds me of some asshole in the Playstation.com forums saying that if you buy a ps3 and you don't have a HDTV then you are "worthless loser" I love the DVR, the Media Store, the 1080p (altho I don't have a HDTV) and the 8-type memory reader. The hard drive is a must.

At one point they were calling this thing a supercomputer that would ship with Linux installed. Half my ass. So it's not coming with Linux? Erm, you can't very well run an OS without storage, unless we're talking about a LiveCD OS like Knoppix, but you still need storage if you want to save anything. So no no hdd could only imply no Linux. I suppose they could still offer Linux with the hdd, but time will tell.
