Majestic
What a waste of post space... at least post your thoughts on the article or something. Personally I found that article to be full of sh*t. All the features they propose rely on hardware to be compatible - The system uses BitLocker Drive Encryption which can be linked to a chip called TPM (Trusted Platform Module) in the computer's motherboard. Go ahead, try and force all mobo manufacturers to comply. Especially likes of DFI.
Nobuyoshi2
What a waste of post space... at least post your thoughts on the article or something. waste of post space because i didn't post my thoughts on it ? haha talk about nitpicking, I hope I didn't cause any major inconveniences for you I swear sometimes you guys will say anything to just feel better about your selfs well anyway enough of that, according to the article you won't be able to download mp3's or media with windows vista, so it doesn't look like microsoft will be getting many windows vista customers. I swear sometimes you guys will say anything to just feel better about your selfs Who are you laughing to? It was basically a worthless post, full of already known information. All it was was a BBC news article, you didn't bother putting text for it, and just titled the topic, windows vista news. And I swear your Shift key is broken, because I've seen it used twice by you. Saying this is nitpicking isn't really called for either, partially because Maj is right, and its not like his post was a waste, because he started a discussion afterwards talking about how he feels the article is incorrect and how motherboard manufacturers will comply with the new standards. Now had you posted a link to that article, and put after the link, perhaps your thoughts on it, a para-phrasing of what its about, you'd probably still have people saying, old news, lame, but at least you aren't just pasting in a link to a forum and expecting us to laud you with respect and appreciation for it. FYI, 'your selfs' = yourselves. Maj - They only need to make AMD and Intel get onboard to comply with requiring TPM to use their new chips. Of course, every new computer will need one, which won't happen unless they switch architectures. EDIT: In response to your edited post, Microsoft is only looking to prevent people from downloading illegal media, not all forms of it. So they want to DRM your life up. Its very reasonable of them considering their position, and tons of people will still buy it. Most adults do not care about this, and those who do are very capable of using Linux or Macs, and Corporations/Educational institutions are probably Microsoft's largest customers, who definetly won't abandon them. Majestic
Since no one bothered to read anything Windows Vista Step-by-Step Guides for IT Professionals Read the Bitlocker and Trusted Platform Module docs. Both describe how to turn the services off.
Wolf68k
The only upside to Vista that I can see and yet is complete and total BS, is that Halo2 will be coming to the PC but only for Vista. Something else that is crap about Vista but it's not MS's fault, as hard as it is to believe, but rather GFX card maker's fault. Vista requires cards to support HDCP which while many card makers say their cards do support they really don't. You can read an article about it at FiringSquad.com. Dup
No OS is greater than another really is it? Its all down to user preferance and user needs. Half of problems to do with any OS is down to the user being a complete abject retard. Windows has always been an OS to try and idiot proof itself almost. It has veebn successful in the most part until and more and more idiots start creating spyware and visruses etc. Yeah, to use Windows Vista in its full advertised glory you're gonna need the hardware too. Fair enough I say. Who wants an OS that can't cut it in 5 years time? Its all about making money. It dosen't stem from Microsoft, it stems from all the other big corporations trying to control the end user and make a quick buck. All this DRM sh*t is a biggest example how MS are led as a pawn by the RIAA etc, becasue if they didn't play ball then the RIAA would go all lawsuit etc etc. Its all there to make us buy the new hardware and buy media lawfully. At the end of the day, there won't be a next generation without it. Windows is a multimedia based platform and that what end users want. Linux isn't quite there and needs a lot of 3rd party support which is unreliable. MacOSX is a nice platform and userfriendly with great stability in the latest version, but its hardware limited, more so that Vista. You can't bitch about this that and the other. Windows is the leading platform and years of research and development have them keep the throne at the top. All this kind of crap was the same with Windows XP. Hardware limitations and poor driver support. It was all next gen but now its a major standard and you wouldn't be playing games, rendering digital art or mastering a full sound recording without it, and the same will be with Vista in x amount of time. The only beef I have with Vista, is that it reaks of MacOSX in a big way, but then why go better than what works already but only on a limited platform. Cran.
Oh wow, I MUST BUY VISTA because it has protection for illegal mp3s and it plays Halo 2!!11 I really see no reason for Vista, hell, if more of this crap becomes a reality, I might as well grab one of my many Unbuntu disks out of the closet!
