DfntPntbll
I have tried and tried to get past it, but I can't. everytime I try to install VC on my pc I get an error that says: directx redistributables: component transfer error - component error: directx 9.0 how can I fix this problem? AMD Semperon 1.5 GeForce FX 5500 256mb 1gig RAM and yes I own a legal copy and am using the disk.
Justin
Not knowing anything about that problem, nor having encountered it beforehand, sounds to me like the installation is crashing when it tries to install/update Direct X on your PC. Logical solution from my point of view would be to update Direct X manually (Windows Update should do the trick, otherwise see here); and then install Vice City after you've updated Direct X. And if prompted, decline to have Direct X updated by the Vice City installation. PS: How have you tried to get past it?
Demarest
Something that bothered me about this before and I kept my mouth shut because I didn't know where to go with it and only throw it out now in case somebody else might: Didn't VC automatically install DirectX 8? jarjar
It should have installed itself if you didn't have it. Go to -> My Computer -> D Drive (Or whatever your computers cd drive is called) and double-click setup.exe as i don't belive that direct x can be installed without starting the setup for Vice City. Though i recommend you download DirectX 9.0c form here. It is newer and is needed by most of the newest games. Download DirectX 9.0c Now!

Take 2 Games suggests otherwise - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City uses Microsoft DirectX 9.0. Source. But yeah, regardless, the latest version is generally the way to go. jarjar
I though it was weird, because Vice City was release along time after DirectX 8.0. I though it was DirectX 9.0, but usualy Dem is right on the mark. I guess this time he was wrong. Or we are wrong, not that it really matters. Just download DirectX 9.0c from the link i gave you before. Cheers' jarjar
DfntPntbll
I've already installed directx 9.0c and it still does it. what exaclty are the steps to installing this correctly? I want to double check myself. your suppose to: 1.) uninstall old directX drivers 2.) install new drivers correct?
