Cran.
http://editorial.carsales.com.au/mellor/me...A257115007C51E7 Porsche reveals its most powerful 911 Turbo ever, and confirms a new GT3 for Geneva By GoAuto staff 15 February 2006 advertisement PORSCHE’S much-anticipated 997-series 911 Turbo coupe will go on sale in Australia in the third quarter, priced from $327,000. Porsche Cars Australia confirmed the news this week as the sixth generation of the range-topping all-wheel drive 911 Turbo broke cover ahead of its world premiere at the Geneva motor show, which opens on February 28. It gains significant increases in engine output, outright acceleration and handling. Maximum output from the 3.6-litre boxer engine increases to 353kW at 6000rpm – 44kW over the 996-series Turbo – and 620Nm (up 60Nm) from 1950rpm to 5000rpm. Paired with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the Turbo can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a claimed (and often understated) 3.9 seconds, reaching 200km/h in 12.8 seconds. The "most powerful series-built 911 model of all time" can also accelerate from 80 to 120km/h in fifth gear in 3.8 seconds. Fuel consumption? The EU statistical average has been reduced by one-tenth to 12L/100km. Figures for the optional Tiptronic S automatic transmission are even more impressive – rest to 100 clicks can be swallowed in 3.7 seconds, 200km/h in 12.2 sec and 80-120km/h in 3.5 sec. Fuel consumption is 0.3L/100km lower than its predecessor at 13.6L/100km. Both versions have a top speed of 310km/h. To be shown alongside the 911 GT3 (another world debut), the 911 Turbo benefits from exhaust turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, a first for a petrol-engine production car. The VTG has adjustable guide blades that direct the engine exhaust flow variably and precisely on to the turbine wheel of the turbocharger. Porsche claims the upshot is improved flexibility and acceleration, particularly at low speeds. Power is transferred to the road via a redesigned version of the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) AWD system. The brakes comprise monobloc fixed-calliper (350mm diameter, ventilated) discs with six pistons at the front and four at the rear. Higher-performance ceramic brakes will be optional. Visually, the Turbo has bigger air-intakes, bi-Xenon headlights and deep-set foglights. At the back the coupe is 22mm wider than the previous model and has a redesigned wing spoiler. Personally, I like it, although the front body kit looks a bit ugly (fog light looks like its been slapped on). Apart from that, mean looking machine. pics: Edited February 16, 2006 by Cran. MindCorrupt
Looks great IMO. I love how theyve got back into the older cooler designs. Love the lights all round on it. Great shape and flow. Nice all round car. People have been giving the rims a bit of a bagging but i think they look great. @pav, be sure to get a vid if you do
tommiegunz
I like the interior, but i would buy a 2006 Bmw M5 over this car. I'm sorry, but German cars stinks (by that I mean the so called *dumbasses* "elite" class, Mercs, Beamers and Audi's) Thats my opinion. This car forms an exeption. A very nice mean looking car. Second hand Porches aren't expensive at all. Take a 924 for an instance. It might not have the best motor anymore, but it sure get you moving. And you have a good quality P under you bum. Cran.
lol. The 924 is the poor mans 944. 924s just look sooo dinky and crappy without the wheel arches and the rear spolier. Also, it's got a Van engine. That thing will get you moving, but not very fast Edited February 17, 2006 by Cran.
Dup
Looks like a Porsche Seriosuly. Their chassis/engine/suspension technology might be sh*t hot, but its just another Porsche. Commenting on looks alone is just pointless. They do look nice... but why keep changing names etc?! It just looks like a 911 GT3 with round headlights. A car this expensive is almost 80% of the time bought for the status by some dumb blonde or some skinny office bod golfer whos only link to a dumb blonde is his car. The technology to me isn't seen by these people and its not seem by others unless they know all about Porches and check out the rear badge. I'll see a Nissan Skyline and take a 2nd Look, older or newer, becasue they're rare. I'll see a Porsche and not look twice. They're two to a penny here. Mostly driven by arrogant blonde mothers who are painfull to follow as they're damned slow and if they're attemptiung to drive fast they do it in a 30 zone and I back off 500 yards while they narrowly miss every obstacle they can find. The only decent Porsche driver I've seen and met is a guy who has a 911 GT2. I was following me while I was on my uncles VFR400 on thr back roads. I eventually pulled over as I'd overheated the bike a bit and he stopped with me. He was impressed on how I handled the bike and asked if he could help. Then he let me have a nosey round the car. You could tell he loved it for the car it is underneath, and not keep his wife happy. He used it as a daily drive too, which impressed me. Now I know this sounds like a jealous rant, but thats not the case. I would buy a Porsche, even the new 997 Turbo. But then I'm not that vein and I'd drive the car for what it is and not what the badge says. I'd honestly prefer an 80's 911 3.3 Turbo though. Id turn my head to classic more than the 997. Owning that wouldn't have me bothered about all that power and technology. It drives A to B and looks great. A classic would make me vein, id want people to look at me then. In the 997, I'd just be obcessed with my car having an identity crisis.
Mega
I agree dup. If you buy a car you buy it not for what it represent but for what it really is for you. Signature soon.
JJHW
I have the same thing with Ferrari... They're everywhere here... We've got a Ferrari/Porsche/Maserati/Bentley dealers here, so you can imagine... I went for alittle trip to a smaller village, 'Earls Colne' and there's an AMAZING forecourt there... It had a HUGE old Rolls, a Gallardo , a Datsun 260Z (might even have been a 240!), 2 DB9s, a 360 Sypder and other assorted 'impressive' cars . Naturally, we pulled over and had a nose around! I might go back today and seen how much the Datsun is, it's fairly near my band practice anyway... +FF7F24+ Edited February 18, 2006 by JJHW
