DexX
well, partially correct, you definetily need lights in the scene. I know there's a tutorial on this out there somewhere, i've seen it, but cant seem to find it atm. Here's some abridged instructions though; 1. Put all the lights in the scene you want, where you want them and finalize your lighting setup. 2. select all the Geometry in the scene 3. Go to the Utilities Tab (the hammer icon in the far right upper corner) 4. Press the "More" button, and from the window that pops up, choose "Assign Vertex Colors" 5. In the options that appear after that (scroll down to see them) set the following parameters: Channel: Vertex Color Light Model: Lighting + Diffuse Color Assignment: Color by Vertex Rendering Options: Enable "Shadows", and "No Radiosity" 6. once the parameters are set, press "Assign to Selected" 7. to see the colors in the viewport, keep all the objects selected, and right-click over them 8. from the menu that pops up when you right-click on the object, go to "Properties" and choose it 9. in the menu that pops-up from there, go to the lower-left corner and enable "Vertex Channel Display", and set it to "Vertex Color". Do not click the "Shaded" button. These instructions should work as of Max 7, earlier versions will have a slightly different set of lighting params, but it should translate over with few problems.
