DJDJ
Ok, i've not-so-recently installed a Sound Blaster Live Value sound card on my PC (from my old one). It works fine excpet for two things: I have messed up sound in some games, and the only solution i have found is to turn down the hardware acceleration. That solved that problem. (IS there any alternative solution for this???). Prob #2: Those of u familuar with MSN messenger will know that you can send a "Voice Clip" I had the recording source set to Wave, so i could play samples of my music over MSN. With my old onboard card (and with soundblaster's acceleration at max) this worked, but with the sounblaster's acceleration down, it won't. So, i tried setting my recording source as the onboard sound card, and the playback as the SBLive (in control panel/Sounds). But that still wont work, In the audio setup in msn, when i select the onboard card, i move the volume slider. This moves the MICROPHONE slider in recording volume control (as in the normal wondows volume control) and vice versa. So i need to get the onboard car to record from wave (or, as i've been told, Stereo mix). I did have one idea; pluging a wire into the back of the SB Live (where u plug speakers) and connecting that DIRECTLY into the microphone socket on the onboard. THIS WORKED, although the recording was a little distorted and slightly faltered in comparison to the SB, but it worked. THEN something sprang to mind. The socket will also accept headphones (a normal jack socket) , and these can be used like normal CD players or w/e. Now, in order for the headphones to work, there has to be power running through(like on usb's), right? -- to power them. Now, seeing as i will have a wire running from the speaker OUT of my Sound Blaster, striaght into the MIC IN on the onboard, Will this create any problems such as voltage runing through the cards and causeing damage? I am worried that, as there will be a circuit (SB>Wire>Onboard sound card> motherboard>soundblaster), will there be a risk of short circuiting? i am not too familuar with tech sides of stuff, so i am appealing to you guys for help. Info: Windows XP Home, 2.80GHZ pent 4 256 RAM, 74G hd onboard sound card - RealTek AC97 Audio Sounblaster Live! Value soundcard. Sixdust
You have to remeber that this is a cheapie card, thus meaning that it doesnt have all the features of a more expensive one. In most games I would set sound setting at medium and high only if the game supports Eax Advanced Hd 3.0 or less. (most games like fear use 5.0) Also the audio processor isnt as good etc., so it cannot process some fully accelerated games that require lots of voices etc., Edited February 18, 2006 by Sixdust

Sixdust
Sorry I wrote this last night , I was very tired. Basically the audio processor isnt strong enough to support the load of 3D sound effects and it will lag alot or not work at all. I would know because I have the card. For gaming the audigy 2 zs looks like what you need. Link: Here is a comparison chart of all the sound cards up to audigy 4. I am sorry but I cannot find a comparison chart with the x-fi sound cards. As for your msn problem, do you have all the latest drivers for the sound card and latest download of messenger?
DJDJ
yeah, everythings up to date, just the computer flipping the bird really the thing i really want to know is if i plug a wire into the back of the SBlive(the green speaker plug) straight into the Mic plug on the otehr, would that be a smart thing to do?
