Knife
I was woundering if it would be possible for someone to make this icon look like its spinning like a rotating globe: Thumbs up if this can be done
TheRoper
Which direction? <-- or --> What do you want on the back half? A mirror image of the front? [email protected]: A'ight, check back. Might be later tonight as I have school in a bit. Someone will have probably done it by then, but if not, I'll post. Knife
Yeah, a mirror image should be ok As for direction... ----> please
pdescobar
This took longer than it really should have for a 16 pixel square image, but what the hell. I created a 32x16 canvas, pasted the original image into both halves and then filled in the black with a similar pattern. Then I created a mask that allowed only a 16x16 circle to show through, moved the mask along the image and copied the resulting globe into an animation frame. There are 16 frames in the resulting anims although they were a bit large in file size given the small pixel size; subsequent optimizations and reducing them to 31 colors helped cut that down. Since it took approximately 5 seconds to reverse the spin (and just a tiny bit more of imageshack's bandwidth) I posted both directions. For reference, this is the canvas (PNG, 32x16, 1.17 KB (1198 bytes)) Globe spinning left -- 4-bit GIF, 16x16, 2.79 KB (2862 bytes) [img=http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/7758/knifeanimleft25ca.gif] Globe spinning right -- 4-bit GIF, 16x16, 2.77 KB (2841 bytes) [img=http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/9620/knifeanimright26lf.gif] For completeness, here are the original, 8-bit versions: left, 4.56 KB (4665 bytes) right, 4.54 KB (4653 bytes) Edited February 14, 2006 by pdescobar
Knife
Perfect! Thanks EDIT: On a white background there is a not too nice boarder thingy around the globe. Any chance it can be done with just a plain white background? If its too hard don't bother Edited February 15, 2006 by Knife
DiVaio
Perfect! Thanks EDIT: On a white background there is a not too nice boarder thingy around the globe. Any chance it can be done with just a plain white background? If its too hard don't bother Why don't you PM pdescobar about it? He probably has the file so it's easy for him to remove the border around the globe.
pdescobar
I'll take a look at it later and see if I can clean up the border so that it works on a white background. If this is still the last post in the thread, I'll edit in my results. EDIT: Try these; I removed the partial transparency on the edges of the mask and made the South Pole a little lighter so they should look better on light backgrounds. DiVaio
It looks as if you cut a piece off the left side. I think you removed too many pixels.
pdescobar
It looks as if you cut a piece off the left side. I think you removed too many pixels. The original image is asymmetrical. The left edge is longer than the right edge, and the top is longer than the bottom; I think it was a 17-pixel diameter circle cropped into a 16-pixel square image. I decided to preserve the original size/shape when I started unless knife specifically requested it be changed. It's probably more noticeable now though with the lighter edges; I considered trying to fix it when I made the last version, but in the end was too lazy. If I get bored tonight and the mood strikes me, I may consider doing something about it. EDIT: OK, since DiV pointed out the shape issue, my perfectionist streak kicked in and forced me to try and fix it. Here's version 3. matt would like me to note that I changed the shape of the mask to make it rounder. I sure hope it's the last version...
