Scarface187
Artist: DragonForce Album: Inhuman Rampage Label: Roadrunner Records Release Date: January 9th 2006 Genre: Power metal Uusually, when you think of DragonForce, you think of a fast and intense onslaught of guitars, drums and synth. For this album, “Inhuman Rampage” it is pretty much the same thing here. Most of the songs are repetitive and all start to sound the same after awhile except 1 standout track I will discuss later in the review. There are however a couple neat things in each of the songs. When I started to listen to the album, I know that it wouldn’t be that different from the bands last release “Sonic Firestorm”, but in the end, the album was fairly entertaining for the most part. Now on to the tracks: ”Through the Fire and Flames” – Great opening song. The acoustic guitar in the intro is really great. Overall a nice song. ”Revolution Death Squad” – Pretty neat song. I dug the vocals a lot on this one. Only problem with this one is that I thought it dragged on a bit. ”Storming the Burning Fields” – I liked this one as well. There is a cool section 3 minutes and 10 seconds into the song that leads into the solo which is also good, and unlike the last song I didn’t think this dragged on, it was just long enough. ”Operation Ground and Pound” – I wasn’t really impressed with this song until 4 minutes and 20 seconds into it when some heavy riffs started to come in and a short synth solo. That was the only thing about the song I thought was good, other than that it’s another song over 7 minutes that I feel drags on a lot and makes me want to skip to the next track. ”Body Breakdown” - An ok song, I liked the bass in it. Especially 4 minutes and 15 seconds into the song. It also had a sweet synth solo too. ”Cry for Eternity” – Really cool intro. Cool singing. Nice keyboard stuff. I think it was a bit long though at 8 minutes and 12 seconds. ”The Flame of Youth” – This song started ok but at this point I was sick of hearing the same thing track after track so I skipped to the last one. ”Trail of Broken Hearts” – Well after listening to the first tracks I was kind of getting tired of the repetitiveness, and then this song came on. A ballad. My favorite song on the album easily. I loved it. I like how it all flowed together and how there was some piano playing in there. A great intro, a cool chorus and a sweet guitar solo. I loved it. Best track out of them all. DragonForce has to do more ballads. Final Thought: Before “Trail of Broken Hearts” came on, I was kind of fed up hearing a lot of the same stuff. After however I was blown away and forgot I was listening to the same album. Basically, if I could offer DragonForce advice (They would never take it though) I would tell them to either shorten some of their songs or make shorter albums, and make more ballads. So if you are looking for an album where each track is unique and blows you away, you won’t find that here. If you are looking for some good power metal with some crazy speed picking and an overall epic sound then DragonForce is the band for you. I give this album 3 records. This is how my rating system works: 1 Record - I mourn the time I wasted listening to this album. 2 Records - Kind of lame. A few good things but nothing special. 3 Records - An ok album. Really good in some parts but boring in others. 4 Records - A pretty good, solid album. Well worth a listen. 5 Records - Must buy. An musicial orgasm. Comments: "There's not doubt these guys are extremely talented musicians. The problem though, as with their last release, is that the songs tend to run together. But that's pretty common in a genre like Power Metal, where the music sounds pretty much the same throughout, with the exception of a few gems of bands. I can listen to it, but only in doses." And that is all she wrote.
