Mxyzptlk
Here's the minumum requirements topic: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=189214. I think you might want to upgrade your graphics card, but you can try SA on low settings and it should work ok.
constipated_cannibal2002
well i know what the box specs are. But those aren't always right. As it is i meet the recommended requirements. also this game ran on the ps2 so this game should easily run as good or better on my pc. I know my card is older than most but i don't have the money to upgrade and im just using this one as a backup till i can get me a new one. I had a 9800xt in this system before it blew up. Im going to Overclock the 9200 before i install San andreas so at least ill get a little better performance.
GTA3Freak-2001
It will run fine on medium but yeah that card will bring down the performance somewhat and honestly overclocking it probably won't improve it much.
constipated_cannibal2002
ill just drop the res. all the way down and turn the graphics on high. without vsync and AA it should run fine. i was playing painkiller and painkiller battle out of hell which are way more graphical and awesome looking tha San Andreas and painkiller ran butter smooth allthe time with everything maxed out just on a lower res. I know overclocking won't help much but it will pump out a few more frames and that all that counts.
Mike0
But San Andreas is not like other games. I think it will not run smooth on very high, regardless of the resolution. It will only work good on low. Even I put it on low and I have a 6600GT. Its just smoother that way. It also worked on very high with me, but there was some lag. I think Rockstar just put in the medium, high and very high modes just for the sake of it and not even testing out quite much.
GTA3Freak-2001
Painkiller is an older game then SA even if it does "look" better, SA just isn't very optimized and has many memory leaks.
constipated_cannibal2002
Yeah well your probably right. Rockstar is always giving pc users the shaft and even the ps2 version of the game looks better than what most people can get since at least they had realtime shadows on the cars and on the xbox version it did but wasn't very pronounced. Cobra Custard
The PC versions are different in that the hardware being used is more varied. You are also dealing with bigger resolutions and textures, as well as a longer draw distance. So the PC version has to run fast and stable across the board, unlike the consoles which naturally have only one feature set. I was happy with the PC version of GTA III and GTA: Vice City compared to the PS2 (especially Vice City). But San Andreas..it's a different ball game even for people with top-spec hardware; feedback from the PC community suggests that the game engine has not been optimised, including the sound issues dogging what is otherwise a really good title. constipated_cannibal2002, you got a real nice system there..but I agree with the others; your graphics card is really, really holding you back. You could save for a slightly older card that can be overclocked or even have it's pixel pipelines unlocked. That 9250 is nice, but on a system like yours..it's akin to using almost-flat tyres on a Ferrari. Overclocking your card won't do much in real terms. Radeon 9250 Review and Overclocking http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.asp...cleid=576&cid=2 http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1638&page=2 I am in a similar position.
