Bryce.
Ok so I'm going to be purchasing a new Mobo for my birthday and I want to make sure it will run with everything I have w/ my old comp. here are the mobo specs So once I buy it, can I just replace it w/ my old one and go, or do I need to buy some more stuff. Right now I have a crappy vid card, (dell standard issue) a good sound card (audio blaster blah blah) and an external, as for that, the rest of my computer is an upgraded Dell Demension 2400 So 512mb ram 80 gig interna/160 gig external So if you can help, that would be great and please keep in mind i'm a noob. Thanks for taking the time to read
millermagic
Dell uses proprietary motherboards I believe. You might want to look into a motherboard that would work with a dell psu.
Bond996
Dell uses proprietary motherboards I believe. You might want to look into a motherboard that would work with a dell psu. That was only true with the P3 computers they made. Their Pentium 4 and up computers use standard power supplies, but usually their front ports are propreitary. Bryce.
so with a 775 processor and the mobo it should work or no? I think you're saying that I wont be able to access all of the ports because they dont match up w/ the slots on the back of the comp? Sorry guys and thanks for the help, I'm just a bit of a newb at this comp stuff
Wolf68k
You want to stick that mobo in a Dell case? Note a great idea but a possbile one. You need to look at the case and see what kind of mobo it can support. There are differnet size mobos and not every case can support many of the different size mobos. Bond996
I'm pretty sure you'll have trouble fitting a new motherboard in. It ought to mount fine if you buy the same size as dell (MicroATX IIRC), but I recall their back ports not using a regular ATX panel that you would be able to swap out. Dell Cases are definetly proprietary. If you really want to upgrade, you might want to consider going for a case/psu/motherboard upgrade all at once. Thats what my uncle was saying, I'm already at $500 dollars but the case and psu shouldn cost much Thanks guys you've been a big help
