Zom-B
Hey, i've got back into modding GTA1 because San Andreas is just annoying to me now. The "Gangsta" theme get's old quick. I'm planning to put Claude from GTA3 into GTA, or at least as much as i can. I've managed to change the character picture by editing the .raw files, but i'd like to know how to change the colour of the actual player in game, i've looked at the style file using GTAcars and there's the sprites for him, but only with Brown hair/Yellow shirt/Blue legs, so i figure to get different pedestrians the game must use some sort of Pallettes.. Does anyone know how i can edit the Player pallet to give him the Brown hair/Black top/Green Khaki that Claude wears? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. Example: This is what i hope to achieve Edited February 6, 2006 by Zom-B
MrKooKie
Export a file that uses the pallet you want to have and open it. Then just redraw the player with the colors of the pallet the import it back into the game. - Toyz are goood
Zom-B
I see what your saying, didn't work though a lot of things have turned black and only one frame of the run is the right colour so it looks like other objects use the same pallet. MrKooKie
Okay, with program do you use? Anyway, just open some picture (e.g. car) with EXCACTLY the same colors as you want your player to be. Than Open another picture in another program (any picture, any program) and then just start Copy colors from palet u used before, than Copy the full player back to the picture of the pallet. Save -> Import. MS Paint is the best program for this I think. - Toyz are goood
Zom-B
Once again, i understand what you mean but it didn't work. I use an unregistered version of GTAcars 3.1.0, i used the colours from the Rocket launcher: But when i imported the newly coloured player for GTASPR1_654 it only changed the one sprite, none of the others even when i saved and reopened: Any ideas? Zom-B
Read my post, that is what happened when i reloaded it and of course i have a backup. And if the chosen player choses a player colour, why can't i change the colour it chooses?

And if the chosen player choses a player colour, why can't i change the colour it chooses? you didnt say you reopened the g24 in gtacars. you should actually change the BMP's palette - not the pixels, and select YES to overwrite the clut. but beware, because changing the palette for one sprite may affect other sprites too. Zom-B
Are you kidding me? In my first post i said "i'd like to know how to change the colour of the actual player in game" And even posted this picture to show what i meant. Then i got some helpful advice that i understood but unfortunately did not work from MrKooKie, including pictures showing what went wrong. I know you're an experienced and respected modder in this community Delfi, but you're not being very helpful.. In the picture you showed us -> you only editted one of the sprites... And in this picture -> you show as a sprite that you didn't edit. Maybe you should try to edit them all, because GTA is pretty weird at running things correctly. - Toyz are goood
JernejL
Zom-B: you werent any helpful following my advices, if you change sprite only one sprite will change, if you change palette you will screw up other sprites that share that palette. so, let's do this in a different way, by modifying the script file to change player's appearace! open up mission.ini in notepad, you find it in data folder. now find a line starting with number 30000, here is list of all lines and player numbers for all chapters: NYC chapters, player number is 294 chapter 1: 30000 POWERUP_ON 393 0 0 0 0 chapter 2: 30000 DISABLE 193 0 0 0 0 SANAN Chapters, player number is 85 chapter 1: 30000 SCORE_CHECK 2000000 -1 0 0 0 chapter 2: 30000 DISABLE 9250 0 0 0 0 Vice chapters, player number is 209 chapter 1: 30000 STARTUP 173 0 -1 0 0 chapter 2: 30000 STARTUP 210 0 -1 0 0 find one of lines above depending on which chapter you want to change it for, and add another line below it with number 30000 like this: 30000 REMAP_PED [PLAYER_NUM] 0 -1 [REMAP_NUM] 0 replace [player_num] with player numbers (get them above) replace [REMAP_NUM] with remap numbers, see below: for example try this one: 30000 REMAP_PED 294 0 -1 144 0 you can get the remap_num for color combinations here: http://www.gtatools.com/temp/remaps.htm remember, do this for each chapter separately, and make backups. last second note: i just noticed that my tables in that link have no completely black ped remap listed, which is weird as i know there are completely black mobster people in gta. i spent already 15 minutes putting this together and thats enough of my work, so just find me a mission actor that is completely black and show me a screenshoot of where it appears, i will track down the script for you to find you the remap number for completely black player ped. Zom-B
Wow thanks very much for all the help, but i'm not quite sure i understand it.. I've opened up the mission.ini after making a backup, i found a line beginning with 30000: 30000 STARTUP 173 0 -1 0 0 30001 DISABLE 257 32747 0 0 0 30002 DISABLE 292 0 0 0 0 30003 DISABLE 293 0 0 0 0 etc etc So, what i think you're saying is, add your line of code here: 30000 STARTUP 173 0 -1 0 0 30000 REMAP_PED 294 0 -1 144 0 <-- 30001 DISABLE 257 32747 0 0 0 Am i right? >_> Edit: After running the game, the mission.ini has changed! Now the 30000 line says this: 30000 POWERUP_ON 393 0 0 0 0 30002 KEEP_THIS_PROC 0 0 -1 -1 0 30003 KICKSTART 28000 0 0 0 0 30004 KICKSTART 28200 0 0 0 0 30005 KICKSTART 28400 0 0 0 0 30006 KICKSTART 28600 0 0 0 0 30007 POWERUP_ON 527 0 0 0 0 30010 POWERUP_ON 394 0 0 0 0 30020 POWERUP_ON 395 0 0 0 0 etc Another edit: I replace the 30000 line with your 30000 REMAP_PED 294 0 -1 144 0 And it gave me this, (as it should do ) So i think i understand now. I don't get why my mission.ini was different before though.. strange. Edited February 17, 2006 by Zom-B
JernejL
You understand ok, now just select the remap you want the mission.ini wasnt changed by the game, it is just that there are several chapters in gta1 (not just liberty city - gangsta bang) and each chapter has its own line 30000, i copied and pasted you all 6 lines of all gta1 chapters (liberty city, san andreas, vice city, each city has two chapters), so you probably just found a different chapter line 30000. The line that you thought it has changed (30000 STARTUP 173 0 -1 0 0) belongs to vice city chapters. if you havent opened all chapters in menu then you need 1.000.000 score in gangsta bang to reach new chapter, and 2.000.000 in NYC second chapter to open next city - san andreas and so on until vice city.. BenMillard
I remember there being some all-black remaps, I've used them in my own GTA1 cities. A long time ago I made a GTA1 Reference Documentation page which had several text files with values for scripting stuff. One of them is for ped remaps. Distinct Opponents:33 SAN ANDREAS GLOVES & SUITS132 All-blue citizen, can be used as a police officer rather than PED_POLICE.134 SAN ANDREAS JEANS & JACKETS YELLOW GUN147 SAN ANDREAS SUITS143 HARE KRISHNAS144 DOCTOR/PRIESTS145 VICE CITY GUARDS BROWN GUN146 VICE CITY ORANGE & GREEN YELLOW GUN The 33 remap wears white gloves, like an assassin, with (black?) hair. Remap 134 are often use as criminals, so that's what I used in my San Andreas Assault mod for GTA1. Remap 147 is normal black suits with (brown?) hair, which is probably the one Zom wants.
