Nemesi
I've got a problem: the first time I turn on the pc in a day, it makes a loud noise that last for about half a minute. It's the mother board fan, and if I turn off the pc and then turn on it doesn't do the noise anymore (I mean must be passed a lot of hours, usually 7-9 hours). I had this kind of problem a lot of months ago (less than a year), and I went to my local shop. They changed the fan (well, I buyed a new one), saying me my kind of mother board use fans that after a year make noise (my motherboard is a MSI 865PE Neo2 designed for Intel Pentium 4 Processors). I buyed a COOLER MASTER BLUE ICE SLC-S41-U1 because it was the only one that suits the socket and they told me don't worry for rumors anymore cause it is a good fan....but ? Before going back to local shop, I would like to ask you if anyone has ever encountered this kind of problems and how has solved them... Thanks for your help... Wolf68k
Are you sure it's the chipset fan? You sure it's no the CPU fan or a case fan or maybe the PSU fan. If you still want to replace your chipset cooler, then get a passive one from Zalman; ZM-NB47J or ZM-NB32J or ZM-NB32K. These are just massive northbridge heatsinks, no fan, and they should work. And if you still get noise after installing one of these, then you'll for sure that it never was the chipset cooler?
Nemesi
Are you sure it's the chipset fan? You sure it's no the CPU fan or a case fan or maybe the PSU fan. Yes, it is...Stopping it you stop the noise... I see there's a lot of dust in and around it, maybe removing it I get something? Anyway, I'll check the fans you suggested, in case I'll have to change it....
the_darkside_986
My computer did that for the longest time after I installed a new harddrive. I must not have put something back together properly or something but it eventually just quit. I unplugged lots of stuff since it was the first time i took apart my computer by myself. (My dad took it apart a long long time ago to install something to make the scanner work.)
