segosa
This didn't actually happen to me, but someone else. I'll quote what she said. Operating system: Win XP SP2 Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9550 The problem is as follows. Today when I had just come to my pc and started surfing on the internet and stuff, there was a power cut. The pc rebooted, but already before XP loaded, in addition to what appears usually on the screen, there were all kinds of small squares and stripes (you'll probably get a better idea when you see screenies). I tried to reboot once again, still it didn't look 'okay'. This is what my desktop looked like when I logged on to XP: On the right, there are four clear 'bars' formed of vertical stripes, which are always there, never disappeared. Also, I should note that some of the icons in the start menu and probably all of the file icons in folders also looked kinda 'broken'. Although, the visual aspect aside, the pc thankfully seems to work as fine as ever. Now, I uninstalled ATI drivers and installed new ones, which didn't do anything except for the fact that now all the icons look like normal. Also one interesting thing - occasionally if I move some window over the icons on desktop, the blue stripes around them disappear for a while. But nothing helps for the vertical stripes on the right. The current situation: (Btw, there's the kinda blue stuff around the mouse pointer too, which don't appear on the screenie.) So what's wrong? Any ideas, suggestions would be more than welcome. And feel free to ask additional info, if needed.
Majestic
Did you try running anything with 3d acceleration? If it crashes and burns, your card is in need of replacement

Bond996
This seems a lot like something that's spontaneosly been happening to me on my 19" LCD. The screen will get those bars flickering at points on it randomly sometimes, and when I move windows, the corruption moves with them, so its not stuck pixels. Honestly, I never fixed this. I called tech support several times, and got told to ship it back, but then it started working again and I didn't want to pay to ship it back.,

Having a damaged PSU can cause this when its not giving a stable voltage to the card, and it can also be the card. The PSU is the cheaper replacement though, so it'll be worth a try. Ah I was unsure as to if those were print screens, or framed/cropped pictures from a camera.

segosa
Well, today she turned on her computer and everything was back to normal. Do you think it could have been dust or something on the graphic card? Thanks for the help anyway, hopefully it was just a one-time thing. (And yes, she had rebooted a few times yesterday but it hadn't changed anything). Dup: It's the same Svip who visits here, and it was a "joke" thread saying that he passed away. He's obviously alive though, and not really dead. Everyone got pissed off at the topic starter for joking about death etc, it was a pretty entertaining thread. I'd link you to it but you need a be a registered member to see that section of the forum.

It was probably holding some instable charge and it can take a while for them to fully discharge. Or, it just be "one of those things". Glad Svips not dead. We had fun riding the big one together.
