Prickle
I did a search but didn't seem to find this question, appologies if its further down in the archives. Anyway, do I have to do all of the checkpoint charlie runs? I'm at 98% and still have the rainy checkpoint charlie to do. Or do I just go for the final mission? You have to beat Checkpoint Charlie once for 100% completion. You don't necessarily have to do it to finish the storyline. If you beat it once and get the money-generating icon at the boatyard, you can safely ignore it forever more.
Spuds725
If you have a time for checkpoint charlie in your stats, then the game considers it done-- you can also check to see if the boat yard is generating money. The boat on the left is faster, the boat on the right turns a little better but the majority of it is speed so I'd use the boat on the left. To check whats left for 100% and how to check what you have left... click the link in my sig... I took a 100% checklist and eliminated everything that you have to do to get to 99%. Please let me know if it helped you. Justin
Thanks for the pointer. I don't have stats for Cone Crazy, Test Track, etc, but I did do those. Is it a Glitch? GlitchesTest Track/Trial by Dirt-- in some games there is a glitch in these checkpoints(I know this glitch exists on PS2 and PC-- just not every copy has it)-- for whatever reason, in some people's games, one of these times will not register unless the other is done and then the times for both will be the same, and depending on what order you do them will affect whether one or both will be in your stats-- --to fix this glitch-- do trial by dirt-- check your stats to see if you have a time for both, if not, do test track, check your stats again-- if it still doesn't have a time for both, do trial by dirt again-- you should now have a time for both and it will be the same for both. Courtesy of Spuds, in this post.
Spuds725
YOu might have the test track/trial by dirt glitch.. Just redo conecrazy--- more then likely you reloaded over it... could have happened with test track also....see fuzzys quote for getting around the test track glitch if you have it. Justin
you need to do checkpoint charlie before the final missions open because one involes thatplce being taxed by the mob. Not necessarily. It'll only get taxed by the mob if it's one of your assets at the time of 'Cap The Collectors'. Otherwise, any other of your (at least) five assets will be taxed. Spuds725
What Fuzzy said is correct-- you only HAVE to own printworks-- then any other 5 businesses-- this is for storyline... Prickle should be past getting story done-- said he/she was at 98% in the initial post. Demarest
I don't think so. You can buy assets as soon as you complete Shakedown. Nothing about pursuing those assets indicates you must also complete Vercetti Estate. Though I will give you that most people should since they've learned to depend on the HUD for what to do. Spuds725
The game was designed to sort of "Randomize" (for lack of a better word) when you get the final missions--- The code has been checked-- the final missions are unlocked when-- 1. Vercetti missions done 2. Printworks is done 3. Any 5 other businesses are done. I did a storylyine speed run on PS2 (3 hours 32 minutes)... never even bought Film Studio or Malibu-- Did the other 6 businesses-- and the story continued. Also FYI-- you don't have to do the last Avery mission either (to finish the story). Avery, Love Fist, Mitch Baker, Cuban, Haitian are all side missions too and don't have to be done to finish the story. It is possible to finish the story with only 26% completed (in your stats) Spuds' GTA V 100% Checklist // My IV & Vice City Videos "I want to design a video game where you take care of all the people shot in all the other video games.... Justin
I hate it when people never believe you despite the countless times you've explained this. Spuds, Demarest (and I) are correct. I'll point you to a very useful file created by PatrickW - Vice City Mission Sequence. It shows which missions are needed to unlock which other missions and to progress through the game. Spuds - I think it'd be an awesome idea to post a link to that file in the User Submitted Guides topic. I figured I'd run it by you. If you're OK with it/agree with it, I'm sure Patrick will be fine with allowing it, but a PM to ask his permission would probably be best. I think it's a good resource and anyone unfamiliar with the game will find it invaluable.
pdescobar
It is possible to finish the story with only 26% completed (in your stats) To go a bit off-topic, you can be even more efficient than that. On my minimal storyline completion save, I finished "Keep Your Friends Close" at just 22% (35 mission points.) I probably took longer than 3 1/2 hours, though. Spuds725
Are you sure about that?? I did mine with 29%, but 30 hidden packages-- I was pretty sure it was done with the minimum other then the packages-- which I'm relatively certain give you 1% for every 10. I did Lawyer-- all Cortez-- all except "all hands on deck" Diaz-- all Vercetti-- all Boat yard Cherry Poppers SSA (1st list) Kaufmann cabs Printworks Pole Position I don' think I did anything else but I possibly did some jumps... //edit// I just remembered I did do cone crazy ( about 15 times) to make a bunch of money for properties-- not sure how much that added. Done on PS2 btw... Spuds' GTA V 100% Checklist // My IV & Vice City Videos "I want to design a video game where you take care of all the people shot in all the other video games.... Prickle
So you have 100%??? No. Finished 'Keep your friends close' and still at 98%. I may go back to an old save and see if I can't find figure it out from there.
Prickle
Okay, I used Dem's recall tool and it says I still need the Target Range and Test Track. I'm guessing I have the test track glitch, so I'm going to do another run of the game (grr) from my save prior to test track and work back to 98%. What is the deal with the Target Range?
Demarest
Why assume a glitch? Don't take this personally; I'm just venting. I mean, anytime somebody has ANY challenge in attaining 100%, they assume it's a glitch. I HAVE YET TO SEE A GLITCH THAT PREVENTS 100%! Thanks for using Ancestral Recall. Glad it gave you the info you needed. So... use it. Do Test Track and then the Rifle Range. Which is just a matter of returning to the range you went to to acquire Phil and get a score of 45. Prickle
Why assume a glitch? I read about that test track/trial by dirt glitch (and still don't quite understand it) and it seems like I've fallen into that as I did both missions and did not get credit for test track (my 98% save game gives me the rainy Trial by Dirt). I geninuely did not know about what was required for the rifle range, so thanks for telling me about the score. My last save prior to test track also predates the majority of the rampages, so slight annoyance there, but at least the tools you've written do a good job sniffing out the issues. I'm saving test track until I'm back to "Keep Your Friends Close" so I can easily deal with that problem if it is, indeed, the problem.
pdescobar
RE: My statement that you can complete "Keep Your Friends Close" at 22% (35 MP). Are you sure about that?? Done on PS2 btw... If you had 29%, that's either 45 or 46 mission points (both of them compute to 29%), meaning 10 or 11 more than in my game. Discounting 3 for hidden packages and 1 for cone crazy, that leaves 6 or 7 which most likely came from jumps, save house properties, or another money-making activity. Here is the breakdown of the 35-point / 22% completion game. Since minimal completion was the primary intent of the playthrough, I was careful to do nothing extraneous, even if it wouldn't have actually counted against the percentage and would only have been listed in the stats. That means no save houses bought (so no opportunity to store the Guardian Angel Admiral ), no jumps completed, and even zero hidden packages, taxi fares, rampages, and stores knocked off. A side effect of this forced minimalism was a speed penalty as some time was wasted goofing off (generally stunting the Prawn Island fountain) while waiting for my money pickups to refuel in order to build up enough cash to buy some of the asset properties. This was done on the xbox double-pack version, but I can't imagine that matters. MP - Description5 -- Intro + Laywer (An Old Friend; The Pary; Back-Alley Brawl; Jury Fury; Riot)4 -- Cortez (Treacherous Swine; Mall Shootout; Guardian Angels; Sir, Yes Sir!)4 -- Diaz (The Chase; Phnom Penh '86; The Fastest Boat; Supply & Demand)5 -- Kent Paul + Vercetti (Death Row; Rub Out; Shakedown; Bar Brawl; Copland)2 -- Pole Position (Purchase; Stripper)2 -- Boatyard (Purchase; Checkpoint Charlie)2 -- Sunshine Autos (Purchase; First Car List)2 -- Cherry Poppers (Purchase; Distribution)4 -- Kaufman Cabs (Purchase; V.I.P.; Friendly Rivalry; Cabmageddon)3 -- Print Works (Purchase; Spilling the Beans; Hit the Courier)2 -- Finale (Cap the Collector; Keep Your Friends Close)==35 total mission points (22% completion)

I'm not familiar with the glitch you're talking about. When you started over did you do that straightaway to see if you could get it to register? Click my 99% link in my sig.. I described it (the glitch) in that post near the bottom...its also in both the PS2 and PC buglists with solutions. I have it on PS2 (sometimes)-- I think it depends on the order I do it, I know others that don't have it and I've only heard of it occuring a few times... Someone early last year was stuck trying to get 100% on PC-- through some trial and error we figured out that he had the glitch too... he deleted his save before he tried to get his 100%--- but played through again... he got the glitch again and the work around worked for him when he tried it. that link gives a work around for it... essentially keep doing test track, then trial by dirt, the test track again.... it will finally give you a time for test track in your stats--but it and trial by dirt will have the same time...I forget which time is saves for both though (trial or test). //edit// Here is the thread where the PC guy had it.. although re-reading it, I don't think he believed he had it-- but the evidence all points to it (if you read our posts)... http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=165559&hl=Trial Pdescobar.... I may have bought some safe houses... I don't doubt your claim... I stand corrected. Spuds..
