pdescobar
OK, so today I decided to take my notes on the SA audio formats and put them up on the GTA Modding wiki. Being a complete wiki neophyte, I've already screwed up and wondered what the procedure was for getting help in fixing it. What I did was to create an Article called Audio Formats when what I really wanted to do was to create a Subcategory called Audio Formats. I've successfully created the subcategory, but the File Formats page still has the link to the mistakenly created Article. So, err, what's the procedure for getting that Article removed (or at the very least get it unlinked from the File Formats page) and is there a better place for discussion of GTA Modding wiki issues than this here forum? Svip
Only administrators can delete articles using the wiki system. The best idea would be to remove the entire article (by removing all content) and replacing it with some lines saying: "Requesting delete". Or even better, make a template: {{request-delete}} Actually, I am going to do it. Hold on... Well, I did it. Hope the admins like the idea. I stole it more or less from Wikipedia, unless of course they had already created such a system. The Category for the job. The Template I made The article in question In order to us the template, just insert it at the top of the article, before the text (yes, I know I managed to delete everything from the article, which you should not!), it will itself add to the category. EDIT: There is a thing that confuses me, is when you say there is a page that links there: Check for yourself. pdescobar
EDIT: There is a thing that confuses me, is when you say there is a page that links there: Check for yourself. Thanks for the help Svip; that seems like a reasonable approach. There is a page which links there, but it's the parent Category. Go to http://www.gtamodding.com/index.php?title=...ry:File_Formats and note at the bottom where it says: Articles in category "File Formats"There is 1 article in this category. A * Audio Formats That still links to the problem page as of the time of this post. When I created the page, I made it part of that parent category by including the link to the parent category at the bottom of the page, but you apparently need to do more than remove the link to actually remove it from the category. As for why the "what links here" page says nothing about it, perhaps that only displays other articles which link to it rather than generated pages like the category page. Just a guess. pdescobar
I've deleted the article for you, is everything as it should be? Thanks for the deletion. The File Formats Category Page still initially had a link in the "Articles" section for it after the deletion, but after carefully reading http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Category, I figured out that making a minor edit to the text of the category page would force an update and make the link go away. So I did, and it's all fixed now, much thanks. I'll try and not screw up so profoundly next time
