pdescobar
I would like to be able to get a list of the files in the various .IMG archives (specifically those from San Andreas) so that I could search through it with grep or from an external script. From what I understand, the IMG has an internal directory of some kind (something.dir) but I could find no way within IMG Tool 2.0 or Spark 0.9.2018 to extract that directory or get a simple text directory list. I even tried doing a "select all" on the file list in each program but I couldn't copy it afterwards. Does anyone know of a relatively easy way to get such a list? steve-m
Well, you wrote the audio tools, so shouldn't you be able to write a small tool to extract the lists quickly? The img format is very simple, and fully documented. But since I'm a nice person, here are the lists for all of SA's IMGs, generated with REspawn's IMG 2.0: img_toc.zip (210 KB)

And yes, I probably would have written something to do it myself if I had no positive responses. I was hoping I was simply missing something and wouldn't have to, though. Thanks again. DexX
just out of curiosity, what do you need the list(s) for?
pdescobar
just out of curiosity, what do you need the list(s) for? My primary computer is old and slow, so SA is installed on a laptop of another family member that I don't always have access to. There have been times recently when I wanted to find which archive contains a certain file, wanted to understand the file naming conventeions better, wanted to know whether there's a matching dff to go with a txd, etc, and I thought it'd be useful if I had a list of files on this computer that I could quickly search through. So, I figured I'd ask if there was an easy way to get such a list. I'm still quite new to GTA modding so sometimes I just like poking about out of sheer curiosity. It may not be tremendously useful, but it's just something I wanted to have at my disposal.
steve-m
Well, as long as you have enough disc space, you could just copy all the interesting files over, even without being able to run the game. I do have copies of the PS2 versions of VC and SA, and LCS for PSP on disc, just to look at the files.

I have copies of most of the data directory's text files and have enough room for a couple of the smaller sfx archives and audio streams (along with needed audio/CONFIG/ files) to do some basic testing during SAAT development, but I don't have nearly enough free space for gta3.img (or SPC_GA.) I'll hopefully be buying a new PC in a couple weeks, but until then I make do with what I can.
