Kaj. Posted January 7, 2006 Share Posted January 7, 2006 I just was this movie earlier with my friend, and oh my god was it funny. We were going to the Fun With Dick And Jane but we saw this instead, and I must say I'm glad we did. I think this was one of the funniest movies I've seen in quite a while. The writers shopped around the script abit, and apparently Trey and Matt modified the idea and sent it to production. A quick Wikipedia search for this movie produces a single paragraph on why you're a dumbass. I was dragged into this with some friends. Thats what I thought when I saw it, but, upon further inspection, I found this: Fans of the television program South Park have held criticism against the movie, noting heavy similarity between the plot of the film and Eric Cartman's subplot in the episode "Up the Down Steroid." However, it is to be noted that The Ringer was originally written and entered pre-production in 1998 and filmed in late 2003, a full 3-6 months before the South Park episode aired. Additionally, screenwriter Ricky Blitt and the Farrely brothers have accused South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone of plagiarizing The Ringer's story, which the latter duo deny.
