_-playero-_
So I got this lapto for christmas: Acer Aspire 3613WLMi 15.4" screen 60GB hdd 512MB Ram 200mb Integrated Video (I guess) Celeron M 1.5GHz Since it was integrated video I didn't expect it to run VC so swell. But it actually does at 1280x800 resolution. And looks better than my Geforce 4 64mb desktop lol. First thing, if I set widescreen off, it will look all stretched. But if I set it on, the crosshair seems to be bad. Bullets don't go to the center, or even near the center... If I set the frame limiter off I will get slow loading textures. If I set it on it will play ok, I guess it's because the low CPU. But I'm getting some minilags before some sound effects. Like when a cop is going to say something, it lags for like 4ter second. I disabled the Audio Controller in the Hardware Manager and Vice City runs fine. Without sound of course... Audio Controller is "INTEL (ICH6) for AC97". Is there anyway to fix those problems. Also, this happened in my desktop as well, sometimes when using the CamHack, Vice City frezes, the whole computer frezes I think... since I can't do anything and I have to restart my pc. Kthnx. Justin
Did you install the optional radio stations upon your installation of the game? Reading the audio off the harddrive will be a good deal quicker than reading each file of the disc (although I doubt as to whether sounds like cop dialogue is considered 'radio stations'). You're only 300 MHz over the minimum requirements, so that's likely to be the problem. Unfortuntunately if this is the case, there's not much you can do in terms of a quick easy fix. Try disabling every unnecessary process and such...

Demarest
First thing, if I set widescreen off, it will look all stretched. But if I set it on, the crosshair seems to be bad. Bullets don't go to the center, or even near the center...Is the screen itself a widescreen? A buddy of mine has a widescreen laptop and it means all types of preparation to play a game. If I set the frame limiter off I will get slow loading textures. If I set it on it will play ok, I guess it's because the low CPU. That CPU is 4 times more powerful than the minimum requirements. And unless you're playing on a PC with the minimum requirements, frame limiter should always be on. The game will let you know if it shouldn't. Try updating the drivers. My Intel onboard audio would actually dump my OS with VC audio until a fix came along. Maybe I could try overclocking a bit...Maybe you could try addressing the issues instead of making them happen at a faster rate.
_-playero-_
I can't say it is totally widescreen, since widescreen movies still show those black bands, smaller than my CRT monitor but they are still there. But if Widescreen is off, the game looks horribly strectched(sp?). it means all types of preparation to play a game. What kind of preparation? That CPU is 4 times more powerful than the minimum requirements. 4 times? VC minimum requirement is 700mhz right? Then it is just 2 times more powerfull. Not sure about VC requirements tho. Ok, I'm gonna try updation the sound drivers. Thanks, I'll reply later with results.
Justin
I've probably made a really stupid, embarrassing mistake, but in case anyone was wondering where I got my information from (saying _-playero-_ is only 300 MHz over the minimum requirements), Take @ Games' VC PC support page says... Minimum Hardware800 MHz Intel Pentium III or 800 MHz AMD Athlon or 1.2GHz Intel Celeron or 1.2 GHz AMD Duron processor I still don't know what I've done wrong, so if someone could kindly point it out to me it'd be most appreciated. Demarest
I can't say it is totally widescreen, since widescreen movies still show those black bands, smaller than my CRT monitor but they are still there. But if Widescreen is off, the game looks horribly strectched(sp?). Distorted would be the accurate term. But it isn't about appearances. And certainly cannot be ascertained by movies. Widescreen as a movie is not a constant. Watching multiple discs on the same tube might reveal different heights of letterbox due to different aspect ratios. No, widescreen as a screen is a 16:9 aspect ratio. What is the screen's native resolution? By the way you're talking, I would venture to say that it IS widescreen, which is why I'm surprised it isn't more obvious. I would even expect there to be a sticker somewhere to be used as a selling point were it to be a showroom model. it means all types of preparation to play a game. What kind of preparation? Not sure. Playing at certain resolutions with certain features disabled/enabled, certain version of the drivers, etc... I'm sure it's different for each game and I'm guessing it's a one-time dealy to determine the right formula for a particular game. That CPU is 4 times more powerful than the minimum requirements. 4 times? VC minimum requirement is 700mhz right? Then it is just 2 times more powerfull. Not sure about VC requirements tho.The requirements listed for VC are for seventh generation Intel processors. You should know by the time elapsed alone that we've far surpassed that. Your Celeron M has a system bus 4 times that of a PIII or PIIICeleron. Caches are different, etc. I said what I said and while trying to ballpark it, I may have even understated it a bit. I stopped trying to compare when we got technology in the realm of ridiculous for home use.
_-playero-_
I see what you mean (off-topic, I think Celeron M is based on the Peintium M, or viceversa). My screen resolution is 1280x800 (thats what Im using now). Problem seems to be that the HUD and the map seems to be Distorted even when the Widescreen is ON. tommy_vercetti187
well, playero, you got off a little better than i did. i also have a laptop, and my vice city shows a bunch of things invisible, and sometimes textures dont load completely, and it sucks when i run into something i cant see. and i have a 1.8ghz amd sempron. sometimes these things are just weird (and i did try installing the patch, sez that my gta-vc.exe is an unknown version)
