carljohnson55
i think members should be able to delete their posts. incase they double posted and didnt realize or something like that.
Jay
Valid point, but in many cases, posts by members that they dont particularly want are necessary for research and investigation. Theoretically, if some member was to go around trolling and slagging off a certain member, the member cracks and whinges, the other member goes through and deletes all said posts and cries foul himself. Plus, people would end up abusing it in other ways. Fact of the matter is no matter how good the intentions and convenience are, people will always abuse those changes. Well it makes sense, doesn't it? Jay's right, things like this will always have some idiot abusing it. As it is, if a situation arises where it is necessary to have your own post deleted, you should just report the post via the report to a moderator function. It only becomes annoying when other idiots come into the topic and spam it up or do something pointless like having a go at you for double posting when it's clearly an accident. But again, you can just report their posts too. Bottom line: report the post and if a moderator feels it's appropriate to be deleted, it will be. Dalpura
If members could delete their own posts, they could post post post, delete delete delete just to get their post count higher. And we can't have that. They could also delete any incriminating evidence against them, say they posted something inappropriate, it got reported, and they deleted it. As Fuz/Jay said. Too much hassle. If you accidentally double post, don't worry about it. You're not going to get warned for something that is an accident. But if you really do want you accidental double post removed right away, just report it and a mod will come along and do it for you. Been suggested (and turned down) many times, so: Closed.
