silvermac
Every once in a while, BBC2 car show Top Gear hosts a race, where one presenter drives to the other side of Europe in a supercar, and the other two take another form of transport, e.g. train, plane, boat. Me and two friends re-created this in SanAn. 23:46 Driving a Turismo, Dominic Clarkson bid Steven May and Peter Hammond a farewell at the Camel's Toe Casino, promising 3 cups of tea at the garage in Dorethy, San Fierro. As I drove off down the strip, I knew my $76,000 Turismo wouldn't let me down. As long as the freeways were moderatly clear. Steve and Pete walk to Liden Station for a train. 01:30 A crash on the Julius Throuway slowed me down, but I 've passed the Blackfield Intersection, an the desert highway is normally clearer than the Ventaurus freeways. My Turismo roars as I set off at 100kmph 02:30 It's been 2 hours and 44 minutes Right And we've covered one mile Right When is our train due? I don't know 03:50 A slow patch irritates me near the Martin bridge. The others are still in Yellow bell station, but once they move, there's nothing in they're way until Cranberry, across the road from our destination. My lead will be slashed as public transport prepares to humililate me. I want to put my foat down, but traffic ain't letting up. 04:25 Finally, after so much delay, we prepare to leave Ventaurus. Time to cut across Bone County. 06:35 One mile in the distance is the Garver Bridge. After that, is the freeway, that tunnel, then I'm at the Garage. I can't lose now. I've concentrated so hard, while they brought a ticket and put their feet up. I can't let cars down. I cannot lose. 08:23 The Kinrid Bridge. Cranberry is nearly upon us. After that it's a 10-metre walk. Peter is praticing laughing. It's been a long train journey. 09:10 Rule 1: Obey traffic laws Rule 2: Finish Undamaged Those rule are all that stop me ramming through Fierro cars and giving two fingers to the city's stupid traffic light system, which seems to be stuck in red. The tunnel was bloceked, so to keep rule 2, I had to take the long way around. Change already. 10:30 After the train preforms a mind-bogolingly slow stop, we exit the station. No Turismo. No Dominic. We've won. Trains are better than cars. We look around in case he's behind us. No. He's not there. We've beaten him. We cross the road to get a drink. The garage is open. The kettle is on. Cars are better than Trains. Thanks to Peter+Steven Johnson as my oppenents Next time: Shamal vs Sandking Verdant Medows to Clucking bell, Idlewood

balmung03
hmm... shamal vs. sandking; well, you'd think the shamal would win hands down, but then there's the rule 2: arrive undamaged that hinders things, as it will be hard to land an airplane near there. however, taking the trip by car will also take a while. my prediction for that race is the sandking. here's an idea i have for the next race... dodo vs. pcj600 vs. super gt in a race from the l'il probe inn near the restricted area to the avispa country club. however, if you think the dodo will have too much of an advantage there, substitute it for the raindance/leviathan/maverick, since helicopters are notoriously slow in the air when trying to move forward. and nice idea, reminds of cannonball races, except no cops... maybe try a road race with a 3 or 4 star wanted level? nice idea, too, if i haven't already made that kinda clear with my interest. now if we had a multi-theft auto online we could do it with different people and have videos from each person as they're burning rubber on the mulholland intersection or julius thruway, lol. guitarrocker
he wrote that the train won, and then he wrote that cars are better than trains. what is the real result? next should be a race from the boating school between a cheetah and that one larger fishing boat. (i forgot what it is called) and end at the beach in los santos next to the pier.

GTA3Freak-2001
Could of been more creative with the names and also the way in which you told the story, I understand its hard with SA not exactly being the real state sized map that would offer a more diverse and interesting race. silvermac
Part two Dominic Clarkson in Sandking vs Steven May in Shamal(Hammond is away) 06:00 Verdant Meadows I laugh as May faffs about getting the hanger open whilst I drive through Bone County. I need as much distance possible, because once he takes off, he'll can cut across the whole of Red County + Santos. Fortunly, my Sandking can go offroad, so Red County won't be a problem. Once I hit Santos, I go aross the Northern Boulevard, change at Mulholland, agian at the T-Intersection, turn off down Grove Street, over the bridge, and I'm there. The Shamal is slow. 07:00 Getting the Shamal out of the hanger, and taxing to the runway takes time, but the plane is speedy, and I appoach Santos. If I parachute over the Clucking Bell in Jefferson, I'll beat Clackson no problem. However, the rules state that the plane must obey traffic laws and remain undamaged, so I'll land in the airport, and car-ride to the restaurant. 07:30 Past Montgometry, I attempt to test the off-road abilities. However, I nearly fall off a cliff. So much for a sneaky short-cut. The county road to Santos is empty. Thank Heavens for that. 08:00 Diaster!!! I appoach the runway at an excessivly sharp angle, and must fly over the docks and try again. I land, run to the exit, and finds a ridable car. 09:00 Down the evelated freeway, no traffic lights yet. Moderate traffic. I change over, towards Grove Street faithful Sandking. 10:00 To car-ride, you simply stand on a car, and let it carry you to your destination. As I'm not driving the car, it's allowed by the rules. All goes well until the driver takes a wrong turn. 10:30 How long have you've been waiting One hour Therefore... Cars are better than planes. Coming up in the future... Car vs Boat vs train in Four Dragons to Queens Hotel Car-riding vs train in Unity to Market Boat vs car in Bayside to Chilliad Our next project, however will be masive Grove street to LSX, to Easter Bay, to Cranberry, to Linden, to docks, finishing at Santos Forums Car vs Trains, Planes, and Boats P.S. As much as we'd like to show videos, we'll need to PS2+SanAn games running side-by-side, and a better internet connection.

guitarrocker
My first challenge was a short one. we started in the parking lot next to the giant chicken and ended at the safe house on the far north end of las venturas. the usual rules applied the competaters were a brand new FCR-900 fitted with dual carbon fiber exhaust pipes, red wheels, and a shiny new silver paint job. the other is a freshly imported sanchez. this thing is at an extreme disadvantage in every area, except for its undeniable offroad abilities. the FCR is up first. it rockets off the line in a cloud of gray smoke and is off. it flies down the open road east towards venturas until it gets stuck behind an extremely slow driving truck. it cant pass because it is in a no passing zone and that would be in clear violation of the rules. after sitting behind the truck, the FCR gets a break. a reckless driver slams into the truck sending off the road and into the roadside ditch. the FCR takes the opportunity and speeds away. finally, it gets on the highway. but that was a mistake. it was extremely hard to get off the highway legally, and after about 1 hour (game time), it finds its way off of the highway. now it is on the main streets and plenty of red lights are determined to slow it down. after three bad lights in a row it pulls into the garage and clocks a final time of 5:50. next off, the sanchez. it flies off of the cliff and onto the airstrip right away and jumps over the road east of it. it cannot cross the streets because that is against the rules. no one said anything about jumping over them... the sanches is over the roads and onto the streets of las venturas. after only one red light, it gets to its destination in only 1:27. off road is better than on road. next challenge: my personal modified cheetah against a sandking. airstrip to driving school. silvermac
Good, although the red text is hard to read. Normally, it's better to have two different forms of transport, and a neck-on-neck race for example: Four Dragons to Queens Hotel Pete in car 4:15 Me in boat: 4:16 (Becaused I crashed) Steve in tRain; DNF (He was rubbish, lol) PS That was a full-on race-no rules Edited January 2, 2006 by silvermac
Oddsock
The red is fine for me. Very soothing against something like this disgusting deep blue, so sharp you need to highlight it. -Cheeburger, Cheeburger!

TenaciousD.
I'm in the proccess of making a race now Bullet vs Jetpack From:- Verdant Meadows To:- Brown Starfish Bar and Grill, Los Santos Here it is: 12:00 I start to get to grips with the Jetpack, after about 5 minutes i cant move, not well but i can go forward 12:25 Ha, Richards all the way back at Verdant Meadows where as i'm already by The Strip Club on the outskirts of Las Venturas 12:30 I narrowly avoided the No Fly Zone, just. Now i'm at Fort Carson, the whole state looks great 50 meters above ground 12:40 I was hungry so i stopped off at Cluckin Bell to get a bite to eat,Richards probably being chased by rockets and all sorts, i did'nt tell him about the No Fly Zone. Haha 12:50 Around Dillimore the jetpack gave up so i put it by a tree and decided to car-ride over to Vinewood, then the car turned back towards Dillimore, strange. I got a taxi from there all the way to Verona Beach and hired a bike to cycle the rest of the way. 13:00 Mmhhh, nice chicken breast, better get going before all the crab goes at the Brown Starfish, from here it's simple i go across the Fallow Bridge and keep going south until i reach Rodeo, then i drive down Santa Monica beach, onto the pier and have a drink before that midget arrives. Thats the plan, hope it works 13:10 I can see the Grill and no Bullet, i've won. Yes !! 13:30 Crap, he beat me. Jetpacks, Car-riding, Taxi's and bikes are better that a Bullet Edited January 2, 2006 by tenaciousd2005

guitarrocker
first off im glad you guys like my new text next up, sandking versus my personal modded cheetah. one of the cars got completely demolished. here is the challenge: we had to go from the desert airstrip to hunters quarry. my cheetah was up first. it has a new exhaust system, a carbon fiber spoiler, a candy apple red paintjob, and enough nitrous to take down a small building. the cheetah struggled to get off the loose airstrip sand and onto the streets, but when it did, it was like all hell broke loose. it weaved between traffic as the supercar's engine roared. it held perfect drifts and shot through the desertand easily handeled the road south towards hunters quarry. but the next turn would cost me over $90,000. the cheetah's wheel caught some of the sand in its drift which sent it into an oversteer and off of a cliff. it plummeted down the side of hunters quarry and rolled over and over until it came to rest on its roof. a fire erupted and engulfed the expensive car. i ran and took cover just as the gas tanks blew. so there is no result. as soon as i get the cash, i will set up another supercar to take on the sandking. until then. the sandking will stay in the airplane hanger next to its future foe... my bullet. i accept donations
