Hello there, having quite a big problem with GTA:VC

Every time i install it, it works perfectly first time, UNTIL i restart my computer, then it won't work at all, i double click on the application, and nothing happens at all, i've even tried applying the patch and still nothing, i'm lost as to what to do.

Here is the information you may need.

1) PC

2) 1.0

3) Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz

4) 2GB PC3200 DDR 400mhz RAM

5) ATI Radeon 9800XT 256MB Graphics card

6) Windows XP Professional

7) DirectX version 9

8) Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4

9) No mods installed.

10) (PC ONLY) Have you tried deleting your settings file? Where to find it: My Documents\GTA Vice City User Files\gta_vc.set -YES, no changes at all.

11) History: Is this your first install? No. It only ever works if i don't restart the computer, as soon as i do, it won't work anymore .

Any help would be graciously appreciated.

Try changing the compatibility mode of the executable to 'Windows 98'.

In the root directory (default 'C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\') right-click 'gta-vc.exe' and click 'Properties'. Go to the Compatibility tab, and check the box that says 'run this program in compatibility mode for:'. Then change the drop-down menu to 'Windows 98'.

I read the buglist and it mentions this fix in #12...but doesn't say mention that it is a specific problem to XP Pro.... does the buglist need to be edited or does it happen with XP home also??

Hope that helped you Obiewhee...post back if it didn't.

Spuds.

It happens with XP Home too. I don't think it's specific to any particular version of XP or indeed Windows, but I could be wrong. It can't hurt trying the fix, anyway.

So yeah, in my mind, the bug list needn't be updated.

Patch did not work unfortunately sad.gif

No need to run the patch. It's obsolete these days anyway. Sorry if you got confused before - by 'fix' I meant the trick of changing the compatibility mode. That post of mine was just a response to Spuds' question. My apologies.

As for the problem, I do agree with Dem and consider it relating to your operating system. However, I would have thought changing the compatibility mode would have fixed that up nicely. confused.gif

Yes! Any time people try to argue that whatever GTA is next should be called GTA4, I try and point out that VC and SA are FAR from expansion packs. They're totally different engines. My time with LC taught me that straightaway and I think SA has more unique attributes than the GTA3 and VC engines combined. I was just disappointed that they went BACK to hard-coding a lot of things.
