Mxyzptlk
On Gamespot R* said 36 kilometers square Maybe I did the conversion and area wrong... I think the state is 3 miles long and 3 miles wide - 9 square miles - 14.5square kilometers? EDIT: I converted 3 miles to 4.82700km, then squared it 4.82700 x 4.82700 = 23.299929 square km. Some guy walked a straight line all the way across the state and came up with it from stats.

Mxyzptlk
Herehttp://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/gta4/pre...774.html?page=1 Look Good find GS: What is the estimated real-world scale of the game? How big is San Andreas in "real" terms? JW: The map is 6 by 6 kilometers or 36 million square meters. That's just the outside map and doesn't include the interior locations in the game, of which there are many. On top of that, the player is not restricted to the populated area of the map. The player can take a boat or plane and travel in any direction as far as he or she may want.

kingox
Meh, who really cares how big it is, all we need to know is that its big!!! and fun to drive around.
TenaciousD.
I always thought it was much bigger than 6x6, seems crap now. Has anyone heard of that new game called Just Cause, Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignment however you want: play the island’s factions off against one another; incite a rebellion among the masses; or build alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels. The incredibly detailed game world consists of 1,225 sq. miles of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages which can be explored by land, sea and air. 1225 square miles. Spuds725
Wow, i thought SA was bigger than 6 kilo x 6kilo. I thought it wuold be like 100 miles It feels bigger but its an illusion (a good one though)-- part of it was limiting visibility so you can't see very far-- kind of irritating to me--- especially in a plane. It also felt bigger because of the varying geography....but if you think about it.. doing the race SF to LF-- you drive the equivalent of across the map (north and then east) in about 2 minutes... so do the math... TenaciousD.
If SA was 6x6 Liberty City must be about 1x1
maf
It's still a big area to play in
original gangster
If SA was 6x6 Liberty City must be about 1x1 Not really...Liberty City is actually just as big as Vice City, if not bigger, just with limited places to enter and probably a smaller limit to how high you can go, if that last part mattered. Like Spud said, it's quite a good illusion. I installed the 10x view mod and while flying in a plane in the desert, you can see the whole of San Andreas, makes it look really small. And I believe Ozbrarb made a video comparing SA to VC, you can find it in San Andreas Theatre.
Statico
It takes ages to get from one place to another in a car though regardless of how big it is.
Bryce.
Yes but the feet and miles are very innacurate in the game. Especially when it comes to terms of miles per hour
