guv
Quite often I get the impression that magazine game reviwers are reviewing the individual parts that make up a game rather than the overall game itself. I've often seen reviewers banging on about how important the technical issues in the likes of Burnout, Metroid, Prince of Persia, and Halo are, and how consequently they beat other games in their genres hands down. All I can say to that is bollocks! I would rather play a game that was a little less technically adept yet delivered those elusive factors, character and atmosphere. Many a time I've bought reviewers favourites and been bored to tears, while comparatively flawed games that are richer in character have entertained me immensely. Knife
Reviews are opinions. Simple really. Different people think different things.
Vanillainy
Magazines overexaggerate most of the time, if theres one tiny thing wrong they will just pick it up and make it sound alotworse than it is. As knife said, these are only opinions by the people who write the review, other magazines will have different views and say that its good, while the other says its bad. If you want to see the game for yourself rent it before you buy it. Don't go by magazine reviews.
saintdave
Knife got it dead on. It's just opinions, and how people like/dislike the actual game. The Matrix Path of Neo got very poor reviews but I got it recently and love the game, sure it has it's flaws but not enough to warrent a bad review, but again that is MY opinion. GTA3Freak-2001
Some magazines I've found can be like this so bascially find a magazine that more fairly reviews games or better yet rent the game and see for yourself as its the best way to decide for yourself. Venom
..The magazones are overrated...but doesn;t stop me reading them.. I just buy it for the news and Demos...Though, most of the time, the game's given score does reflect the game..
Sillyhed2000
Gaming magazines should be taken with a grain of salt, but some are very good nonetheless. To anyone in Australia, Hyper is the best games-only mag I've found yet. Basically, they get the extremes right (ie. I eat sh*t like this for breakfast/the new Mario) but don't be too quick to jump on board with them with individual details. Generally speaking, they'll give you the general idea. Don't take any notice of movie magazines, under any circumstances.
