BenMillard
If you can't get into Windows and reinstall the video drivers or something really bad happens because you didn't update the chipset drivers, I'll give you my address and you can come slap me.I'll hold you to that! I'll uninstall the current graphics drivers, install the new card and download the new graphics drivers after I've had breakfast. (EDIT) What I've done: Uninstalled old graphics drivers. Turned off PC, took out old card Put in new card Tuned PC on Downloaded latest graphics drivers (81.98) from nVidia's website Installed drivers Restarted PC Ran GTASA. This is what has happened: 800 x 600, 44.3kB. Erm? Edited December 26, 2005 by Cerbera
Dup
Download Driver Cleaner Pro. Uninstall all the video drivers from the system. Reboot Use driver cleaner to remove the nVidia and Ati gfx driver traces from the system. (i'd rename the .exe of the drivers, as it can sometimes erase that too I think) Reboot Skip windows new hardware crap. Install downloaded drivers. That way you know you have a full clean install of your drivers. If the problem persists its a conflict elsewhere, and likely your chipset. Wolf68k
Did you have GTASA installed before th new card? If so did you delete the .set file before running SA after installing the new card? \My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\gta_sa.set You might even have to go as far as to completely uninstall and reinstall the game. Give both of those a try before using Dup's idea.....no offense Dup. //edit Well atleast try deleting the gta_sa.set files before trying Dup's idea. It's easy enough to try and you don't lose much but the settings you had set...easy to put back. Edited December 26, 2005 by wolf68k
BenMillard
Removing the .set file had no effect...other than having to use the crappy default controls. I made a backup of it on my desktop, so I think I'll go back to using it. I'm really not looking forward to reinstalling GTASA. It takes ages, and I have several mods installed. Are there any free diagnostic tools which could track down the problem?
Wolf68k
Sadly no. It's possible that the mods installed could have something to do with it as well. And yes I know that reinstalling a pain in the padded butt, but blame it on R* What about other games? Any troubles with them? Or is SA the only thing you have installed? If other games have problems as well, then come slap me, it might be the chipset drivers which would still be very odd.
BenMillard
GTA2 works fine. GTAVC has the same texture problems as GTASA: 1024 x 768, 98.7kB. The GTA map editor I have been using now crashes at startup. It worked fine with the GeForce3 Ti 200 but now fails to load. The author has had problems getting it to run with some graphics cards but this is the only nVidia it fails with. Knife and Dup think that there may be some leftovers from the original card software interfeering with things. The chipset drivers is another possibility. However, we can now say for certain that it isn't a problem with GTASA, so at least I won't have to reinstall that.
Dup
Remember when you install a GTA 3D variant, it optimises the texture data for your hardware.... Id say thats the problem. nVidia have some Tech Demos designed for your card. Try one of those. If you have no problems with the tech demo then I highly suspect GTA is the problem. Thinking back when I sent Delfi my old gfx card and I got a new one, VC did the same thing to me. But thats a vague memory. Other than the driver traces problem, which Gangsta Killa had a problem with but resolved his problem by following my steps, your AGP port my not be supplying the correct voltage. But you can render the polygons correctly, so I doubt thats an issue as the PC would just restart.
Wolf68k
Ok first what I said other games, I didn't mean other version of GTA. I mean things like something from the Battlefield series, Unreal Tournament series, Quake series, Warcraft series, Splinter Cell series, and so on. (these were just the first games I could think of) Something left over from the gfx drivers; well I could see that if you went from a nVidia to ATI or some other maker, but from nVidia to nVidia the only real reason you're installing the drivers over again is so the Windows can truely see what card you have. Strange question; do you have any strange problems playing video while in WMP? Play video you've watched before, something with lots of colors. Does it look odd at all? Pay attention. There was a glitch with an older version of nVidia drivers that effected some games and also playback of some videos...and the older drivers weren't all that old compared to now. BenMillard
I've found out via the wonder of MSN that Gangsta Killa got the same card as me a while ago and had the same texture problems in GTA. Dup suggested he did the driver cleanup, restart and reinstall the drivers and that worked for him. So, that's what I'll be doing while I eat breakfast tomorrow. Yay. BenMillard
Well, I used the driver cleanup tool as it's documentation says (with all the restarts and so on) and installed new drivers. The texture problem remains. Could the exact steps which fixed GK's system be posted here?
Bond996
I had the same issue when I swapped out my card actually, now that I'm thinking about it. The issue was only in GTA3 and Vice City. I think I ended up reinstalling the games because it had reoptimized the textures for my old card. Someone before already mentioned this to be a problem in this thread. Have you tried any other games?
BenMillard
Since GTA3 is the lightest to reinstall, I decided to run GTA3 and see if the texture error was appearing there as well. It was, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Texture bug was still present: 1024 x 768, 59.0kB.
Dup
Re-install direct x 9.0c?
Cran.
I can tell you this now, it's not the drivers. I have 81.98, and I don't have your problems. Maybe DirectX like Dup suggested.
BenMillard
After spending pretty much all day going through my system practically file by file with Tonywob, it now all seems to be fixed and running correctly. We uninstalled the current drivers (81.98) and deleted a couple of OpenGL DLL files from "windows\system32\" before restarting. Then we unintsalled new 77.77 drivers from the "inno3D" site, who are the manufacturer of this specific card.
