Alternative Child
Word filters should be used in our profiles such as in the 'Interest' and 'Respect list' catagory. Quite a few members have offending things written in there profiles that which I see should be filtered. Just wanted to bring that to attention. I don't see why we use them at all in our posts and sigs and such, but yeah, just for consistency, they should be used. Why do we use them, anyway? -TMcK- Against the grain, against the odds, against the world Forever the underdogs We are the bastard sonsWe are the ones that refuse to grow coldWe are the thorn in your sideWe are the thieves in the nightAnd we're coming to take what's ours
Alternative Child
Why do we use them, anyway? It's because people may get offended by the words that are being stated.
Simon.
I thought it was for the google ad thingy up the top there. If swearing was allowed then GTAF wouldn't get "sponsored" by Google .
SWEETSAPRIK
I thought it was for the google ad thingy up the top there. If swearing was allowed then GTAF wouldn't get "sponsored" by Google . I'm pretty sure this is the reason. The google adsense TOS has something in it about Pron, excessive profanity, and racism/hate type stuff. So I'm pretty sure that's it. I guess for the sake of being consistant it should be against the rules there too, but (although I'm not positive) I'd assume google doesn't read those pages. Also, since you can only read profiles once you're a member, and since nothing is forcing you to read a profile I don't think it should be a priority. PяopagaиdaIиc. Alternative Child
Why isn't it used in PM, either? It is, I cant say the 'f' word in Pm's.
OH NO
Whats confusing is that expletives are censored, yet you could type "gang fisted and inserted with a large dildo" and these words are exempt from the censors. I dont really get confused by that. At all. Im just assuming part of the reason for the censors is that younger people have access to the forum, and the previous sentence would be deemed a lot more offensive. Alternative Child
f*ck? Oh no! its the "F-Word" f*ckity. If you have nothing to say about this topic, don't post at all.
That guy.
Why the fuck do you care? It's a GRAND THEFT AUTO forum, not a POKEMON forum. Most words are censored out because of the sponsership issues, yes. I'm sure tank wants to keep it that way because a forum of this size costs a pretty penny to keep running, and he could use all the help he can get. Why does it matter if you can or can't see swear words in somebody's profile that you voluntarily viewed. If you read f*ck instead of fuck, or vise versa, is it really going to make a difference in your day? And I'm sure anybody with half an imagination can come up with some pretty creative ways to offend you while getting around the swear filter. Thanks to Guybrush Threepwood for the... 1 of a kind sig. anuj
Word filters aren't built into that part of the board software? Seriously, this is just nitpicking. It's not like guests (who obviously would be offended at the thought of the word f*ck) can even VIEW profiles. But whatever. Pretend "f*ck" means penguin or something if that makes you feel better. Justin
On a related topic, is it going to piss off Google if people go around fooling the swear filter? Because it does happen. And rather unnecessarily too. I mean, as touched on previously in this topic, seeing f*ck with an asterix as the second letter rather than 'u' isn't going to stop readers understanding you. Well since Google uses bots for damn near everything, I'm guessing they have bots running around their Adsense supported sites looking for breaches of the TOS. If it sees the actual words too much it'll probably black-list the sites. I don't know any of this for sure, but from what I know about how Google works, it seems logical to me. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
